AS Key Hider - Prevent being locked out

We have a 2015 27FB FC & though we haven't been locked out yet - read that this can be a problem. Looking for suggestions of how, where, with what accessory Airstreamers are hiding a set of keys outside of their AS.

Thanks,

Glenn

How, door keys in magnetic key box.
Where, exterior, sorry but you are going to have to find your own secret spot.
Spare set in the tow vehicle and another complete set inside the trailer.

I could tell you where I put mine, but then it wouldn't be a secret.

Suffice it to say it's outside the AS.

Bolted down combination key box in a sheltered area easily reachable out of sight.

Ours used to lock itself, but then I added a factory supplied new washer and it no longer has. BUT, we have two full sets of keys for the doors and other items. Then we each have just door keys we carry with us anytime we walk outside the trailer. Then a third such set is in our truck, and our truck can be accessed without a code. Then a forth set is hidden on the AS.

Set of keys in TV
Set of keys in outside storage
Outside storage key tie wrapped in furnace compartment
Screw driver in bumper storage to open furnace compartment
Never got lockout in the two plus years of having my FB25 but I'm ready.

We each carry a set of trailer keys on our person. There is another set in each tow vehicle. Then, as a final resort, there is a full set secreted somewhere on the outside of the trailer.

Hi Glen, We got locked out after shutting the door at Manatee Park. It was raining, little to no cell service, truck keys were in the airstream and it was a weekend, Sunday evening. I highly recommend those hide a key magnetic boxes. Never thought I would get locked out.

We got a push button combination lock at Home Depot. At the desk they make duplicates. Permanently mounted it on the trailer in a discreet location. This serves not only the concern of getting locked out but helps when wife and kids get separated.

In addition to carrying a set of keys:
  • a set of trailer keys in the tow vehicle
  • a set of tow vehicle keys in the trailer

keys

Our '77 has a different key for every lock (door, battery, water, refrigerator, tongue lock, receiver hitch lock).

We both carry keys to the truck and trailer door, I also carry a complete set of trailer keys, I keep a spare complete set of trailer keys in the truck and I know how to pick the trailer door lock if necessary.

Haven't read all of the above posts so my post may already have been suggested. We purchased a combination lockbox from Lowe's and put keys to the AS and Truck in it. We hang the lockbox on the cross bar inside of the propane storage area. So we never have to worry about locking ourselves out of either the AS or the truck.

My '94 Excella came with a key-less entry lock. This is the same key-less pad Ford uses so I set my Excursion and my wife's Escape to use the same code. we are selling the trailer and this is one feature I will truly miss.

Make a spare door key, put it on a neck chain and wear it when you are away from the AS.

Most logical approach to date.

Following a post by someone a few days ago, I installed a simple door latch that catches the upper lock pin inside.
When we enter the latch gets flipped into the pin, preventing accidental locking.
When leaving it's not possible to lock it unless the latch is released.
It works.
Of course a spare set of keys is hidden elsewhere.
