90s Airstream Locks

1.Are all the outdoor compartment locks are the same type locks? I am able to get into all the compartments except the 2 battery compartments.

They don't look like you can replace the cylinder, just the whole lock for $18 at Inland RV.

2. Is the main door lock located on the door latch the same type lock? Looks like it might be.

Thanks,
Marshall

Battery compartment are the cheap RV locks you can get at any RV store for $6-$10. I just drilled mine out, and replaced with the cheap locks. Easy 15 minute job. Water fill lock is the same cheapie. Main door key is totally different from the battery boxes. Chris

On ours, they aren't. We have four different keys, using different blanks, for ours (door, battery, water fill, back compartment). Kind of annoying! I assume this is because they use off-the-shelf locks for each spot, so there's no relatively inexpensive way to standardize. A previous owner etched the purpose of each key on it.

Is it a matter of you just not having the key (as opposed to a broken lock)? If so, try to find someone nearby with a similar Airstream, or call Airstream - you might find their key will work. Turns out a lot of them are the same...

many of the cylinders have code numbers stamped on the front. airstream parts dealers. the mothership might even be able to get you a door key.

If the cylinder has a code, you can order a key off eBay.
