I did a search on the forums, I can't imagine this subject hasn't been discussed already, but didn't really find a definitive answer. We recently acquired a 78 Argosy MH 24'. The seller had no keys, including ignition. The ignition is ez enough, but I have thus far had little luck figuring out what to do about the main door and compartment door locks. I am pretty sure the main door is a Keeler:
Does anyone know if it is possible to find a key/tumbler for either of these locks? Everything works (and thankfully nothing is locked) just no keys. Airstreamsupply says this tumbler will fit on "any" Airstream main door:
Any chance that will work on my main door lock?
They also offer this replacement option:
The main door has already been modified so I guess using this wouldn't be a big deal but I don't really like how it looks at all. I am thinking if I can't somehow get a key for the existing main door lockset I will just install a keyed deadbolt before I put that ugly thing on my MH.
As for the compartment doors, I can remove the mechanism from the trailer but can't figure out how to get the cylinder/tumbler out of the center. I can't afford to break any of them. I am considering removing them all and taking them to a locksmith to have the tumblers replaced. Is that even feasible? Does a replacement tumbler even exist for this lock? Thanks in advance for any advice.
