Here is a link to the image at Inland RV. http://www.inlandrv.com/parts/22224-lock-l100.jpg. This is the lock that I have on my '67. The bolt for Airstreams is longer than the standard Bargman lock that most RV places stock. Otherwise they are identical. If you don't need that, you may be able to locate one localy. Otherwise, Andy has 'em.

Rivet Lock Difference

If you compare the legnth of the bolt (the part that extends into the frame) you will see that the ones on ebay and RVParts.com, you can see that they show have much shorter bolts. Yes, they are much less expensive than the one that fits Airstreams, but if you put one like this on your door there will be nothing sticking out. You will have to look down the hole in the door to see anything at all.

You're probably wondering how I know this.

Absolutely…you are golden! The bolt is the only difference. Depending on the age of the RV dealership, I have seen just the handles and knobs without even having to buy the whole lockset. This is usually at a dealership that has been in business a long time, though.

cool, thats all i need is the outside handle ( the square part inside if the handle has rounded off the edges and doesn't catch the inside mechanism anymore) Ive taken it apart several times now trying to fix, yes i qualify as an expert thanks for all the replies so far... Gary.

Rivet Before you buy something

Hi Gary,

Let me check when I get home. I think I still have an old lock that had the bolt break. One of the “ears” on the back came off blocking the bolt fully in the doorframe, trapping me inside. After I removed the inside handle, I could only get 3 of the 4 screws holding the mechanism to the outside handle out because the Phillips head stripped on the last one. I was forced to pry the cage that holds the bolt in place to get out. After that, I had to remove the interior skin to get the now mangled lock out. If I can get the screw out with a pair of vise grips, you are welcome to my old one.

Experience with that lock says that when you slam the door, from the inside, the horizintal handle breaks off.

Hundreds have been replaced for that reason.

You're probably wondering how I know this.
The original casting mold for the extended striker bolt, recently broke, and cannot be repaired.

Airstream has replaced that cast extended striker bolt, with one that is machined.

The machined striker bolt, is much more expensive that the cast bolt.

The new bolt still only available from an Airstream dealer.

Therefore the price of the complete lock with the new type striker bolt, has increased as well.

Andy
