Scott.

Post a couple of detailed photo's, so that I can see if someone installed a 67 dead bolt or something else.

A good photo of the dead bolt striker pocket area will also help.

I'll do that tomorrow when we have daylight again. It is definately a stock striker (its cast into the door jam, and the striker is nylon). thanks

thanks

Scott.

That deadbolt was first used in 1967, but some owners adapted it to the 66's.

That deadbolt has been history for way over 30 years.

I will see what I can come up with that could work correctly.

Also, from your photo's you need 2 of the nylon striker pockets. We have the original mold for them, as well as many in stock.

Thanks Andy, yes striker plates will be on my order, along with weatherstripping for all the windows and doors. Whoever did the mod did a great job, impossible to tell the difference between the stock striker hole and the second (from the back of the jamb).

Please let me know of the lock if you come up with anything. The door itself is going to come off in the next couple weeks and have a great machine shop here fix two cracks in the door itself where the hinge attaches. It appears someon tried to get in with a screwdriver and broke the door frame just above and below the hinge mount. So the deadbolt and lock did it's job at some point. Have to replace the skin below the windows just forward of the door because of all the different dents etc from screw drivers, crow bars etc. Holding the door shut carefully with the cracks closed, the door does not appear to be warped, has even lines up both sides, and proper clearance for the weatherstrip.

No it will not fit your trailer, without extensive work.

The radius corners at the top of the ebay door are much different than yours.

You would have to do some sheet metal work, both in making the door fit, as well as changing the contour of the door. You would also have to install a new door jamb, requiring more sheet metal work.

That door is off of a trailer thats probably 25 years or more, newer than your trailer.

Andy,

What year did that lock come off of? I need a new dead bolt for my Liner. The original dead bolt is a Yale.

That dead bolt was used in 67 and maybe in 68. Some owners had it installed in 66's, but you had to take the sheet metal off.

I think in Scotts case, the entrance door was replaced, as were several thousands of them, because the cast door frame broke rather easily.

That dead bolt was common to Airstream, since it took a household lock, and modified it with that round shaft, to make it a dead bolt.

That dead bolt "IS NOT A TRAVEL LOCK".

You can open and close the dead bolt from the inside of the trailer, but you can only open the dead bolt from the outside.

Thanks Andy, any idea on a source? (gather that person doesn't want to sell the lock?) I haven't had time to go do some hardware store looking, heard that perhaps I could use a mobile home lock if the throw was the same, that evidentially some of the older hometown mom'n pop hardware stores around here have some that are vintage, and made for a thinner door.

I'll check around and report back what I find.

Save your time, as you won't find it.

Airstream took a household lock and modified it to work, and installed a small pin so as not to weaken the cast frame any more than they had to.

There are far better locks that that one, and again, it is not a travel lock.

Andy.

Andy,

What is the difference between a dead bolt and a travel lock?

I will post a picture of the one remaining Yale dead bolt on my Liner tonight.

Andy, if I'm doing some work on the door anyway, should I just patch that small hole and go without it? Don't want to leave a big hole, but have to do some tasteful repair in that area already.

Andy,

Here are two pictures of my existing deadbolt. Any idea where I can locate a replacement?

The previous owner did not do you any favors.

What he did has severely weakened the door jamb, and door frame.

That cast material breaks rather easily.
