What CB channel do Airstreamers use?
The NM WBCCI unit uses CB Radio Channel 5 at Rallies and Caravans.
I was wondering if Airstreamers across the country had anything approaching a "common channel" or if you are just spread all over the 40 channel band?
Any interest in adopting a common channel? This could permit chatting with others you see on the Interstate or elsewhere.

Great idea. We often use CB from car to car when caravanning. We use whatever channel someone suggests. A designated "Airstream" channel would be great.

That is a good idea, I think it should be (channel - 1) because it is the #1 travel trailer on the road and market..

Very cool idea. Why not conduct a poll? It'd give me a reason to go buy another CB.
Maybe every region could have a channel?

I believe the channel advocated by WBCCI is channel 14. That is the channel that is used at International rallies and caravans.

I think 13 is used by Good Sam Club. 14 is also the channel that kid's walkie talkies used to be on. Maybe WBCCI used 14 so folks could buy inexpensive radios. There is also lots of interference on 14. My 2 cents.

"13" is good it's kind of a first number for the teen years anyhow and we all remember 13.

The the 49th International Rally in Salem, Oregon
has posted the following information.
If folks are used to using Ch 14 at International then perhaps it makes sense to just use that channel everywhere. If a common channel is adopted, it would be possible to "give a call" to those we pass on the highways.
11. C B “CITIZEN BAND RADIO” This can be very important. Its use at the International Rally
keeps you informed daily of changing rally news and weather. The “CB” Rally Base Station is known as “Wally Byam Control” (Channel 14) and is open for your inquiries or emergency calls.
They, as well as the Amateur Radio Club, assist caravans and
others approaching the rally grounds. For suggestions in purchasing
and installing a CB, ask a unit member. Many have one,
sometimes two, one in the car and one in the RV. When traveling
with others a CB becomes invaluable. 12. AMATEUR RADIO This is another valuable group who assists in numerous ways at the rally. If you are a “Ham Operator”, let this group know of your interest.

Airstreams are number 1. So it should be Channel 1. Do they still make CB's ?

My radio came with a telescoping antenna that is probably not very efficient. I am thinking about upgrading to a Wilson 500 mag. mount.

The most commonly used 10-codes:
--------------------------------
When getting started, remember at least the following 10-codes:
10-1 Receiving Poorly
10-4 Ok, Message Received
10-7 Out of Service, Leaving Air (you're going off the air)
10-8 In Service, subject to call (you're back on the air)
10-9 Repeat Message
10-10 Transmission Completed, Standing By (you'll be listening)
10-20 'What's your location?' or 'My location is...'
Commonly asked as 'What's your 20?'
and maybe also this one...
10-100 Need to go to Bathroom
Also, remember that 10-4 only means 'message received'. If you want to say
'yes', use 'affirmative'. For 'no', use 'negative'.

All of our caravans have used 14, when we caravan from a local rally 14 is the channel. If you see a group of us coming down the road 14 is where you will find us. Traveling solo I go to 19, and we sometimes get away from 14 if the chatter is to much.

Airstream CB Channel
For years it has been channel 14 to my understanding. I always run with channel 14 on and have been hailed several times by other Airstreams we pass coming and going.

I did get the Wilson 500 mag. mount at about $53.
It gives me one more bar of signal strength compared to the telescoping antenna that was packaged with the CD radio.
If you see me on the highway, I will be on Ch 14.

love 13 protons! fell in love at 13. tryin' to find floor 13.
if the non-infidels reduced their number of promised virgins to 13 instead of 74, they'd be a lot happier....maybe even fewer...
gee, what number should I vote for?
