Field Day at Bozeman

With all the discussion about the amateur radio station at Bozeman I am surprised that someone, even myself, didn't make any comment about operating a Field Day station(s). Field Day begins at Noon local time in Bozeman since it is Mountain Time (1800 UTC) on Saturday June 28 and ends at Noon on Sunday June 29. Since Field Day is often on the weekend during the International what can I expect? Will a portion of the International ham radio station be dedicated to operate as a Field Day contest station or not?

I'll have a Yaesu FT-897, table, battery, solar (on the CCD), a Buddy-pole (40M and up) and a 22' Windsock pole used with a YoYo-tenna that can be adjusted for any band down to 80 meters although most of the signal at 80M goes straight up. But I have used it in the desert for 400 miles +.

Field Day

I will be there with an ICOM 746Pro, battery power, maybe a generator, and a Hustler antenna on a mag mount with resonators for 40M and 20M and an 8 foot mast, also will have a mobile ICOM 2720 for 2M and 440CM. Dick, K1MGH

I sent an email to one of the WBCCI ARC Officers to enquire about Field Day Operations. We'll see if they have any plans. I'd say if not, we should all get together and do something! I've got one of those slingshot/fishing reel antenna launchers. We could definitely get a couple of dipoles up. I'll bring a G5RV along with my Buddipole and Icom-7000.

I heard back and there will be activity at the club level on Field Day. It's up to the participants to decide the extent. The person to contact would be W9RUS and he has a mailbox at ARRL-dot-net.

One possible advantage is the ARC may have a building or a room we could all use for operations into the night so we don't keep non-ham neighbors and XYL's awake!

What's this I hear about whitewater rafting? That sounds like fun! Tell me more!!!

The ARRL Letter from today mentioned a new Field Day Locator service online. It's really pretty neat. Linky here. Based on Google Maps. On a whim, I took a look at Bozeman. Wow! There's a FD location up the road a bit in Belgrade sponsored by the Gallatin Ham Radio Club. Might give us some options if things don't work out at the Rally site.
