Need to replace this - but what is it?

I am getting ready to start my fulltiming adventure and need to find out what this is.... Since I have only used my Airstream once, I never used this. If my memory serves me, I think the seller told me it was for - phone and cable - sound right? Where do I get this?

I checked with Airstream and they said it did not leave the factory with this on it....

This is a 1990 32' Excella 1000. Thanks!

From what I can see, it's a telephone inlet similar to one on a boat I once belonged too.

Looks like an A/C shore power connection. How did you plug in to shore power when you used the camper?

It looks electrical, but not like mine. It isn't like the standard electircal shore power connections that I have seen.

Right next to that is the drop down for the electrical plug. The one time I took it out to the Sarasota rally, hooked up the electrical to the drop down cord and used an extension cord. Didn't plug the power into this piece...

I was hoping to find out what it was before I took it apart.... can do that and take it to radio shack.... I think it could be what HiHo said....

jkcru, do I need this for cable or is it just for phone? Would I get the part at a marine store? Thanks for everyone's input.....

I'm sure this connector installed by the PO penetrates the adjacent storage locker. Poke your head inside and see where it goes and what type of wiring is used.

yeah, its "phone". I got one on my trailer, too.

the chunck that is missing was from a spring-loaded flip-up cover. It appears to have been ripped off of it.

I didn't think they were still using this type of phone connector as late as 1990...but anyway, on mine, they ran phone wire (regular old 2-pair twisted) from there to a residential wall-plate in the front of the trailer. I can only guess that whoever put it in, stayed at a seasonal/long-term site, before the advent of cell phones.

from the looks of yours, I'd bet it probably leaks. You might want to take it off and fashion a cable-tv hookup or something...or maybe just a patch.

Chances are good that you have technically already replaced it. It called a cell phone.
Get a blanking plate.
Does anyone ever see a campground that still has phone hookups?

Yes. I was there last weekend. Telephone interface boxes at every site. They also have Wi-Fi, and no cable TV, an interesting mix of old and new. Our trailer has a connection like that, but inside the rear storage locker. Since it's inside, and not in the way, I'm not going to mess with it.
Looking at the box, and since it is right next to the electrical inlet, you could make that hole a covered 120 volt outlet, and have electricoty at that point. Just an idea, rather than trying to make a patch that will always look like it doesn't belong.
