Mystery antenna?

Does anyone know what this is. It’s on the left side of a 1974 international. It is has two wires going to it.

It is actually a indicator that your rear lights are working. The cover is missing, and the "wires" are actually light conducting fillament rods that get their light from the rear tail lights. If you take the covers off the tail lights you will see where they connect. In my '76 they indicated the turn and brake lights, if I remember correctly. Most no longer work!

Not exactly wires but fiber optic cables.

Have a helper shine a strong light on the tail lights and you should see the indicator light up!
Magic!

Not an antenna, it's fiber-optic tail-light sensor

Yep, that is not an antenna; it's fiber-optic tail-light sensor.

I'm not sure when they stopped adding them; but I have one my 71' Excella. It works great, and takes almost NO maintenance!

It is easily seen from the driver's side mirror; and allows the driver to check trailer tail lights before traveling AND while on the road. There are two distinct optic link fibers: one to left, the other to the right tail light enclosure. Especially at night, you can tell if tail lights are on, and even when turn-signal (or flasher) is active.

I was sorry to see that they are no longer an option.

Enjoy!
