Now have had my iPhone for a bit over a month and found it to be a really great tool. Signal in 4 states so far has been great. I have been very shocked at how much 3G is out there and found by the phone. I get very few dropped calls and as much as I loathe cell phones, this really is about the best one I have had yet.

Does anyone have any input on how to get cell reception inside the double skin alum?

My wife has an iphone and I have a blackberry but both with ATT. In CA we have never had any problems. We're about to take a month roaming around the four corners so that should be a good test. No complaints about the ATT network coverage.

AT&T service is a completely different animal with an iPhone. I've had very good luck with my iPhone all over the southeast. The only place I've had 3G signal loss was in the middle of the woods on a military base, but still had basic phone coverage. The phone itself is very impressive. Nice and fast with a super intuitive interface. My only gripe is the inability to send multimedia messages like every other at&t phone. The number of free or very cheap apps for the iPhone is staggering. The free games keep the wife busy on those long trips, and I've got all sorts of little utilities for various things that I use all the time.

Yes, the Starbucks is a necessity.

My wife and I have had iPhones since their inception, on ATT since that was the only option then. We use a Wilson amplifier, on the tow vehicle when we are underway, and moved to the AS when we stop. I used silicon sealant and secured a large steel washer over the front window, the magnetic antenna base connects to it. The internal antenna cable comes thru the window on the driver side by the couch. We traveled 22,000 miles with this set up last summer and were only without a signal for a few days in Goblin Valley, Ut. A data plan on the iPad gave us good internet connections also.

A picture or two is always nice. And there are some other threads where this discussion is more current, FYI.
