Coax Routing Help

Has anyone installed a RG-58 coax via the refer chimney?
How did you get it under the cover and threw the hardware cloth covering the opening?

Thanks!

Just drill out the rivets carefully, in the cover and remove it, the coax may pass through the hardware colth if not snip a wire or two then feed it. Reattach the cover with bulb type rivets.

I know one thing...I'd rather be running coax than doing what I did all day...which had nothing to do with ham radio, unfortunately!

Gus, I've used the fridge for coax and never had a problem with heat. I don't think the fridge itself will get it that hot in there. My '75 came with a CB radio antenna attached and when I pulled the coax it looked fine except for the exposed to the elements outside where they had peeled back the braid.

Coax Routing

I routed the coax thru the screen below the access panel behind the fridge. Snake the coax thru a small hole in the creen then up behind the fridge then route to the radio.

I am running my coax out through the floor under the front gaucho/sofa next to the spare tire holder where there is no belly pan, near where you spent your day based upon your picture, to a junction box with a female coax connector in a box on the front "A" frame. Then it can connect to my mobile antenna on the truck, a field dipole with mast mounted on the tongue or nearby or any exterior antenna I plan to use.

Ham Radio Antenna Switch

Motoman & others,
Anyone happy with a good antenna selector switch? Our mobile is hard-mounted under the truck's backseat and a pain to disconnect and reconnect the 259 plugs for HF antennae. Would like an antenna switch under dash to pick, at least, from mobile antenna and an external wire or dipole. Found a bunch of remote control switches and other expensive or bulky solutions -- I'm thinking there must be a solid old-fashioned switch to choose from a pair and have a grounded position for down-mode?

I think Alpha-Delta makes the best. I've been pleased with how they hold up. Here's a link.

Finally, a Ham Project Done!

Yaesu FT-8000R (2m/440)!

Coax is Diamond RG-316 pre-assembly with mini-UHF connector to make routing easier.

Mounted on the fridge vent with a Diamond mount and a Comet SBB-1 (all coil flexible short antenna).

A prior owner had a CB radio antenna in the same spot and had drilled the holes, so I just removed their old coax and ran new.

Model in the photo is my XYL (K9CDC).

Velcro!

It'll stay. This is an old radio I salvaged and didn't have a mount.
