CB use

Well I tried a search on this topic, no results. SO does anyone use a cb while travelling down the road. Find out where smokey is or the best choke and barf is located? Folks gotta use them on caravans- or are cell phones the new rage. What channels are used etc. Tim

I think C.B.;s are just about a thing of the past even truckers are using cell phones now I still have one and a small setup in my utility shed I like talking on them to friends and locals around my area. I have been a member of several clubs in the past and also have seen some info from The Good Sams Club that alot of there members monitor channel 14 due to the excessive language on channel 19 if you get my drift. I always have mine on Channel 14 when traveling I do doubt I will ever get to Calif. as I live in North Florida and it is a pretty good hop over there but C.B. in an effective means of comm. and surely someone will hear you and assist if needed. 73's

I still keep a CB on channel 19er. The truckers still use it and you can pick up info on road hazards, traffic problems, and smoky's whereabouts. We also like listening to the truckers' comments about our AS.

I haven't used a CB since the 70's. The last trip we took with another family we both had the small 2-way radios to communicate which worked out well.

Many years ago I was hauling a newly found treasure (1957 Pontiac Star Chief hdt top) home on a trailer and my trucker buddy was fiddling with the CB. All of a sudden he was chatting with a fellow trucker and he was talking a whole new language. It was like I had ol' Bert sitting in the passenger side of the truck. Later he had to explain to me what all the jargon was about. I asked him why they didn't just talk normal english and he just laughed and said knowing the talk was half the fun. As I noted on another thread today we use them extensively when towing and enjoy the ease of use. Have a single speak hooked up so both of us can hear easily what's said and lots of kibbitzing between the group.

The Citizen's Band Radio

Yep, I am still using the CB radio. The truckers still use them, so if little ones or others with sensitive ears are listening, you might have to go to another channel other than the popular 19 with truckers. Channel 13 used to be "for" RV'ers but any clear channel will do. It still is used to warn of road conditions, debris in road, or traffic conditions.

We all use them in the club, we talk on ch 14 and even use them when going to an unfamiliar resturant. I have it when on the road traveling solo but most of the time leave it off unless I see a traffic problem, then I monitor ch 19. If you decide to get one do spend the extra money on a good cb antenna and have it tuned.

Cannonball

I still like the scene in "The Cannonball Run" where Roger Moore is talking to the trucker using the CB in his Aston Martin. The trucker is using all the "breaker breaker smoky choke and puke 10-1-whatever lingo" when Moore says "Dear Sir, if we are to converse with this wireless, I'd ask that you please speak in the proper queen's english."

10-4!

Cb

I put a new unit in my tv while at the factory. First time since the 70s.
Ch 19 is busy and sometime's foul mouthed, but the road condition's is great. Got cought in Chi town traffic jam for three hours, but missed a traffic accident which was in the middle ane due too trucker warning too get in the right lane.
Ch 14 is the official ch but never used it
If you are going too add one, go too a good cb shop. They will tune the ant. and set it up right. The exit 99 cb shop on hwy 75 in Ohio set mine up and it works great. I got a small unit for space, but the bigger units will give more range. Mine is good for about 5 miles and that works for me.

I put one in my B-van before my first rally last summer. I figured I was going to a WBCCI rally, so I'd better have a CB. We didn't use it at the rally at all.

But, just a couple weeks ago, I caught some traffic information from the truckers on it about a jam I was heading into. I heard them talking about it, switched my satellite radio to the traffic station to listen, and picked an alternative route. Probably saved myself an hour or so that night, too.

CBs are still in use

We use CBs on ch 14 while caravanning. The external antenna gives them much better communications with other Airstreamers directly in front or behind than does the little FRS radios.

We have this DVD and watched it last weekend while camping! This was "my movie" when I was a kid!

"Put the evidence in the car, Junior."
"But Daddy.."
"Put the evidence in the car."
(sigh) "Put the evidence in the back."

I put a radio in the truck about 6 months ago, sent it off for peak and tune at DTB radio in PA. Lots of so called CB shops anymore really butcher the radios, but there are still some good shops left. They're still great fun to have, but no one really observes the 10-codes anymore.
