CB use

Well I tried a search on this topic, no results. SO does anyone use a cb while travelling down the road. Find out where smokey is or the best choke and barf is located? Folks gotta use them on caravans- or are cell phones the new rage. What channels are used etc. Tim

I think C.B.;s are just about a thing of the past even truckers are using cell phones now I still have one and a small setup in my utility shed I like talking on them to friends and locals around my area. I have been a member of several clubs in the past and also have seen some info from The Good Sams Club that alot of there members monitor channel 14 due to the excessive language on channel 19 if you get my drift. I always have mine on Channel 14 when traveling I do doubt I will ever get to Calif. as I live in North Florida and it is a pretty good hop over there but C.B. in an effective means of comm. and surely someone will hear you and assist if needed. 73's

I still keep a CB on channel 19er. The truckers still use it and you can pick up info on road hazards, traffic problems, and smoky's whereabouts. We also like listening to the truckers' comments about our AS.

I haven't used a CB since the 70's. The last trip we took with another family we both had the small 2-way radios to communicate which worked out well.

Choke and puke?

Haven't heard that term in awhile.

Breaker 1 breaker 1, this is the bandit. Is the snowman out there, am I hittin' you son?

Mercy sakes mercy sakes, you blowing' my windows out. 10-4

I was six years old when my parents took me to see that movie. It's still one of my favorites! ("Smokey and the Bandit")

Many years ago I was hauling a newly found treasure (1957 Pontiac Star Chief hdt top) home on a trailer and my trucker buddy was fiddling with the CB. All of a sudden he was chatting with a fellow trucker and he was talking a whole new language. It was like I had ol' Bert sitting in the passenger side of the truck. Later he had to explain to me what all the jargon was about. I asked him why they didn't just talk normal english and he just laughed and said knowing the talk was half the fun. As I noted on another thread today we use them extensively when towing and enjoy the ease of use. Have a single speak hooked up so both of us can hear easily what's said and lots of kibbitzing between the group.

The Citizen's Band Radio

Yep, I am still using the CB radio. The truckers still use them, so if little ones or others with sensitive ears are listening, you might have to go to another channel other than the popular 19 with truckers. Channel 13 used to be "for" RV'ers but any clear channel will do. It still is used to warn of road conditions, debris in road, or traffic conditions.

We all use them in the club, we talk on ch 14 and even use them when going to an unfamiliar resturant. I have it when on the road traveling solo but most of the time leave it off unless I see a traffic problem, then I monitor ch 19. If you decide to get one do spend the extra money on a good cb antenna and have it tuned.
