I ended up with an AVerMedia card for the TV tuner and the system works very well. I have not tackled the speaker solution yet but probally just get a good set of computer speakers with amp and base. My hearing is not real sharp so I can not see spending a lot on a speaker system.
I am still researching wireless technology. I like to have the internet avalible so we'll see how that goes

Just wondering
Is there ANYONE out there that uses the Airstream as that special place just to get away from it all?
Now I do appreciate all the neat stuff out there....but what are you REALLY doing out there "boondocking" or "on the road" with computers. cell phones, WIFI equiped, Satellite capable, HD LCD, infared, Generator back up'ed, microwaved, IPOD Ituned, downloaded, GPS located and directed, etc., etc.
Don't jump on me! I am curious about it. I remember those days of no AC, campfires (actually cooked on them), sleeping bags and peeing behind the trees. Great time....Try it just for the heck of it.
Heading out this weekend....Airstream, a folding chair, cooler and a guitar.

You will be fine. I use this combo all the time. I recommend for cost/value both an Averatec laptop and Haupage WinUSB TV tuner.

Well, some would argue that having an RV at all isn't really getting away from it all.

Opted for the 15 screen over the 17
Alan: If you ever second guess yourself and wonder if you should have gotten the 17-- don't. You certainly made the right choice. The seventeen inch screen is just too much of a battery hog. Even if you don't think you will ever use the laptop outside or away from power, you never know. Believe me, the difference it amazing. I traded mine straight out for a 15 and I am so much more pleased.

I REALLY like all (well, most) of that stuff, and prefer to take it with me. We live in a house in the woods, cook outside year round, and routinely have campfires in the front yard, so the Airstream is equally as high tech as our home. But, wherever I am, I will always prefer to take a wizz outside.

IMO opt out of MicroSoft all together and go with the Linux operating systems
and FireFox browsers.

What I want for Christmas
Rather than start a new thread, I thought I would post this here. It looks like no one has mentioned new laptop products in a while.
Looks like you could take this one on a hike!! Enjoy!

NO WI-FI in my 1956
Guess What This Is!
This is a relic from a time, when we weren't required to
remember so much "stuff"! My, how things have changed!
Hint: picture was taken in 1956...
Answer below...
* * *
It's a hard disk drive from 1956,... with 5 MB of storage.
In September, 1956, IBM launched the 305 RAMAC, their first
'SUPER' computer with a hard disk drive (HDD).
The HDD weighed over a ton and stored a 'whopping' 5 MB of
data.
Sort of makes you appreciate your 80 GB memory stick a
little more, now, doesn't it?
