Verizon Jetpack external antenna vs. Weboost?

For those using the Jetpack, shouldn't it be adequate to just add an external antenna to the Jetpack rather than the expense of the Weboost?

No. Not if you want to camp out in the boonies. The WeBoost is essential. If you are camping where your phone has signal, then an antenna will be fine.

Is it worth the expense. Yes, absolutely.

Bold, have you tried using an external antenna with your JetPack? What's your personal experience in using a JetPack with an external antenna and the WeBoost? Inquiring minds want to know!

If you stick the jetpack near or on the inside of a window you should get a signal just fine. You may have to move it from window to window depending on where you're camped and where the best cell tower is.

Quite extensively. Before we went full-time I used ours with an external antenna. I had the older Jetpack at the time too.

The antenna works well if you are in an area with coverage, 1 bar with the antenna can become 4 bars.

The WeBoost makes a significant improvement when you are in areas with almost no or little coverage. 3G on my phone, can be 4G boosted, or 1X can also turn into LTE.

We are at Diamond Lake Campground, in Oregon right now. This isn't the boonies per say. This is a popular area, but it's 1X on our phones. In the Airstream with the WeBoost we have 4G LTE and 5.7mbps down on my last test.

I no longer use an external antenna with the Jetpack. I'm almost always boosted now.

I posted two videos about my setup recently, you can watch below:

It can make a difference in areas that aren't quite in the boonies too.

Last thought, I forgot. If it's mission critical I would consider adding it to the toolkit. It's worth the cost.

If you want internet for email, social media, netflix and general browsing, save yourself the cash. The antenna is probably a better bet since not having the internet won't be as big a hassle.

As a full timer who works, no internet is a big hassle.

We have both roof cellular antenna and amp inside. The antenna by itself gives a better signal and the amp improves the signal even more; both together makes a BIG difference in the signal strength.

We have to have internet as wife works in legal field of spec. ed. and on 2 adv. boards for spec. ed. to atty. gen Illinois. plus doing advocate work and on other spec. ed. boards, to many to list that involled in, and teaching seminars to teachers. We won't pur. fancy wireless phs. basic ph. and plans, no pics no texting only talk or messages left. Like I stated before have not needed any help for verizon jet pack to get signal.

Got a Wilson Seek 4G for less than half the money of a WeBoost. Been using it for 4 years. Raises a 0 or 1 bar Jetpack signal to 4 bars.

Wilson is now WeBoost (they rebranded). And they still make the Sleek. It's an excellent choice for part time use. However, they've also revised pricing.

We had one originally, but it failed after non-stop use after 6 months on the road. Worse, the heat it produced caused one of the batteries in our first Jetpak to expand.
