Trailer security systems

Anyone have an
anti-theft device installed? I'm restoring a '48 Tradewind and want to build in a GPS tracking system. What's out there?

Look at How to Track a Cell Phone | Digital Trends

So all you need to do is leave a cell phone on in your trailer.

For security, I travel with a pair of Standard Dachshunds. The mother bites first and asks questions afterwards. As someone approaches my AS, she starts to growl, and its intensity increases as the person get closer.

Yeah, Find My iPhone would be a sweet tracking device! Does anybody sell a designated GPS tracking system? Never thought about it before... But then again, how many POS '74 Sovereigns get stolen every year?

How about a LoJack system like they use on cars?

A couple that was birding one evening in Marin County, CA, returned to find their car gone (stolen). After calling the police, they realized that they had an iPad hidden under one of the seats. Using the "Find My iPhone" app, they recovered their car within minutes, where the thieves had dumped it. All of their camera gear was gone, and it had one broken window. But, they got their car back! The iPad does have long battery life...even longer if you can leave it plugged in. I am thinking of a new use for my own 1st generation iPad....

Interesting, I wonder how the signal strength would be from inside our 'tin cans'?

Thanks for all this info. I can't leave a computer or phone in the trailer and there are issues of gps signal strength within a metal sphere and also battery life when in storage. Looked into LoJack but they don't cover many states like Wyoming, etc. but mostly cities where a trailer is unlikely to be used. There are several $100 units that require a monthly service but have to be mounted outside the trailer or conspicuously. And they have limited battery life. I've had one Bambi stolen (blew up when the meth lab ignited taking another trailer and house with it); so don't want to repeat this. And it was a beaut! Thanks everyone.
