Looking for Scanning Software for Windows 7. Want to scan and carry documents while on the road. Any recommendations? thanks in advance.

System 7 uses 16 or 32 bit data. Old scanners use 8 bit. You will likely have to buy a new scanner and use the software that comes with it. I got stuck also.

Just check the specs of whatever scanner you buy and make sure the driver is compatible with whatever version of windows 7 your computer is using, 32 or 64 bit......Phil.

First of all I would suggest that you get a small all in one printer. The new ones don't take up much more space than a scanner. That way you will be able to get a hard copy of a document in case you need it. Windows 7 compatibility will not be a problem unless you buy something several years old.

I keep a lot of the documents I might need on my laptop. However I just put them in directories I have organized myself. I have never used document management software, but there is plenty available, some free.
If that is what you are looking for, Google "windows 7 document management software. You find a bunch along with reviews.

Hopefully the docs are loose and you can use a sheet feeder !!

Scan them to PDFs assuming OCR shipped with scanner or Windows will work
Organize in folders
Leverage tools like "Google Desktop" to index and locate by content

As mentioned above, there are also some nice tools out there like Dokix.. but I can't vouch for them..

A scanner with OCR will give you editable files. Jpegs for the pictures or copies of graphic material. An "all in one" conserves space. Get one that is not bothered by bouncing down the road.Some of them are.
