Satellite TV Hookup

Hi,
We have a 2009 Classic and my husband would like to have satellite TV. Has anyone done Dish or DirectTV and who installed it? Airstream said they would but we do not know even where to start.
Any help or comments would be truly appreciated.

We use Directv. Not very difficult to hook up. If you are already a customer, all you need to do is contact them to get another receiver for $5.00 more a month. You will also need to get the dish. I have both the on roof one (came with trailer) and the portable one. Unless you plan on camping out in the open all the time, do not get the one for the roof. It is useless under the trees. Some say get HD, I do not see a need for it but that is up to you. There are a few different types of portable dishes and again, best you pick out what you want and how much you want to pay. There is a cable connection on the outside of the trailer for the cable from dish to plug into. There is also one inside for the receiver.

Welcome to the forums!

If you look on the blue bar at the top of the page, you will find the "Search" function (a drop-down menu). I find the "Google Search" option to be the most useful.

A Google search for "Satellite" turns up over 1,400 hits. It's a popular topic here.

Myself, I fall into the get HD camp. Even on the smaller screens. At work I have a 22" monitor set at 1920x1080 (Exactly HDTV resolution). I could set it to lower resolutions, but I like it crisp.

We have Direct TV and have the Winnegard dish mounted on the roof. We did not get the HD receiver but wish I had purchased the upgraded receiver that can record. Even with some tree coverage, I get a signal most times while under trees. It may take a wiggle to get it done but for me, it is a whole lot easier than packing a dish out from the PU, setting it up and finding the right signal. Once I get to the RV site and plug in, the satalite dish is hunting for the signal. By the time I get back inside, the TV is already on Fox News.

Here's a picture of our 30' Classic with the roof mounted dish and also the solar panel. Both work great.

Personally, I'm frugal (well, cheap) so I just take my home receiver and remote with me, roll out my relatively cheap sd antenna on its tripod and I'm in business.

If I had a few hundred bucks in my pocket, I might get a Vucube Antenna because it aims itself. Fortunately, I am still more frugal than lazy...
