Question Sat dish

I see they have crank up sat dishes in the campers world. Has anyone tried replacing the crank up antenna on an AS with one? If I replace the 2 hole antenna plugs I have now with coaxial plugs, will they work?

Sat dish

While it would be within the realm of possibility to replace the original crank up antenna with one of the satellite dish systems, I do not believe that it would be a simple process. The first issue would be providing at least one and more preferrably two uninterrupted runs of coax from the dish to the point where the receiver is to be installed - - one run for the receiver and the other for the dish mounted local station antenna - - to do this would likely require removing a portion of the interior ceiling panel and possibly a portion of one or more wall panels as well. I would also be a bit skeptical about having the necessary clearance in all directions to allow aiming of the dish. Routing the coax would likely be the most difficult issue to address.

One consideration with a permanently mounted dish is that it can be virtually useless if you park under a large shade tree that blocks the dish's view of the Southern sky. I considered a permanent roof mounted dish; but decided to go with a tripod mounted portable as I can park my coach to take advantage of the shade and use a 200' cable to allow me to position the dish for best reception.

Good luck with your decision!

Kevin

Had not thought about having to park in the sun, one of the suitcase mounted dishes is looking better all the time. Dont mind doing a little remodeling, but this one scared me a little. Glad I asked. I have gleaned much knowledge without having to ask. I was considering replacing some vista view windows, and putting in a hot water heater bypass. After reading some of the other posts, I am going to live with a little haze and buy a couple extra gallons of waterline antifreeze. THANK YOU ALL.
