Replace TV ant. with Sat Dish?

I have read all the pros and cons of installed sat dishes vs portable dishes. But I am wondering, will the Winegard sat dish fit the same hole in the top of the trailer as the Winegard Sensar antenna? It would be nice if you could just swap them out. I have a feeling that is not the case though. Anyone know for sure?

The bases are the same except the batwing feed goes through a hole in the base. The dish base doesn't have this hole so yo have to drill a hole through the skin for the coax. I made a 3x3" patch with an offset for the cable, sealed and riveted it over the hole. The dish is heavier, IMHO it needs to be on a rib.

There is a very low tech way to plug the hole left by an old antenna.
On our 1974, we had the remains of a dead antenna. unfinished? partly removed ? Of course, it was leaking.

Mike had plenty of good ideas to fix that. And he was going to think about it for ever. Me, of course, I was more in the "Let's do it right now. Simply."

Since 1997, we have had a stainless steel salad bowl siliconed to the roof.
How many Airstreams do you know equipped like that ?

I can proudly say that this salad bowl has travelled about 50,000 miles, at speed up to 70 miles an hour. Does not look a day older than on its first trip. Now its travelling days are over, it will just stay home, retired, leading a good life.

Sorry the picture is not very good, and right now it is badly raining. The bowl is easy to spot between the 2 front vents.

Satellite Dish to replace antenna

I've been interested in having a Dish put on the top of my 31'
86' Sovereign. So, I am following this commentary with great int erest. Where would you recommend I look to get the Dish? Direct TV? Circut City? No RV dealers of any import here in The Central VA area. I just returned from a Florida trip staying at various commercial campgrounds and state parks. It would be great to be able to use the same Dish schedule we have here at home.
Also, does anyone have experience with Direct TV or any other provider that could furnish a Satellite signal for modem use for the laptop? Cell phone providers here cannot provide wireless access, and the adapter I bought from Audiovox would not work with AOL so as to use the cell phone as modem.

Dish Sources...

You can get the RV mount dishes at Camping World, and other RV Supply Dealers. I think that some of them even sell complete systems. Complete systems can be bought at Circuit City and Best Buy. As far as internet goes, they do have a system called DirecPC, and another called MotoSat, which is very expensive. Do some searches on this subject at: irv2.com, rv.net, or rvnetwork.com and you will find lots of info at those sites.
