New LTE/4G antenna installed

Hi all - thought I would share my latest project. This is a dual LPDA (aka Yagi) arrangement polarized at 135 and 45 along with a central omni directional antenna. I used two antennas for MIMO capability - required to get full performance out of LTE-A, and they are polarized because that is how the tower sends out the signals. Imagine two RF waves traveling in an X formation.

The structure that actually holds the antennas is made with aluminum angle that is stuck together with double sided ultra high bond tape, and of course, rivets! The original winegard aluminum tubes (1x1 inch..) are quite flimsy. I may order some square 1x1 carbon tubes depending on how they hold up. As is, the weight is under 5lbs and cranking it up is no problem.

The Yagi antennas connect with LMR-400 cable to 36" pigtails that feed into the trailer. This avoids having to deal with the really thick cables, and not having to bend them too much, which is not good for performance.

Inside the trailer I have a Peplink Pepwave Max BR1 MK2, as well as a Wilson booster for the omni if and when needed.

Performance of the Yagi's is incredible. At my house I don't have line of sight to any towers, yet I was still able to pull a 50Mbps download! Signal would be considered 'fair'.

A/B testing with the amplified omni was interesting but not surprising. The omni was able to download at around 2Mbps and upload at around the same rate.

Happy to answer any questions. I hope this helps someone!

Here I am building the structure to hold the antennas:

I feel highly inadequate with my omni surecall antenna. That is the dog’s bollocks of mimo antennas.
