I have a King Dome. Quite frankly, the learning curve on how to use it was rather steep. However, once I figured it out, it was a piece of cake.

The only down side to a roof mounted unit is the tree factor. There have been several parks where trees prevented getting a signal. I considered a tripod alternative when that occurs, but I figured I should be enjoying nature instead of a flat screen.

I have a wingard Travler on my 30' Classic. Works great! I looked into the domes also. They stick up higher than the Travler and everything I read said you have to keep spraying something on the dome to help repel rain water and dew. The travler won't have that problem as the moisture will fall off naturally by gravity.

Besides, it is cool to watch it lock on to three satellites! Your trailer looks like it is owned by NASA!

Fully retired now!
Never start anything before noon and always plan on being finished by 5.
I will never HAVE to be anywhere ever again!

Any preferences as to providers...Hughes, etc. Ours has a King Dome and we'll also be on that steep learning curve. I understand the small trajectory motor is yet another power sapper if you're on the move night-to-night.
We're going to be off the grid working at Brainard Lake this Summer and stationary, not wishing to fire up a generator every half hour. (Brainard Lake is about 6 mi up the mountain from Ward, CO at 10,300' with no hookups.)
We pick up our '06 Safari SE FB 25' this weekend and after that initial shock of actually towing and living the dream, practicality settles in. Like, OK, now we need solar if we're going to be w/o power, cell coverage, etc. If anyone out there is really satisfied with their solar set up, kindly share that bit of knowledge.
Like, what would it cost for a dealer installed two or three panel setup?
Thanks in advance, Cal

You are probably aware of this but I'll mention it for anyone else who is thinking about it. With the King Dome, once it is locked on, and you have a picture, and you don't move the trailer you can turn it off and won't be drawing any power for it. But when you move to even another site you have to start the search mode again till it locks on. I use Direct TV, just because I use it in the house also.

P.S. I'm not referencing the trac type that moves automatically when you drive your vehicle. I'm talking about one you use when stationary but mounted on the roof of a trailer.
