FCC Requiring Wireless Booster Registration Effective 5/2014
I must've fallen asleep as I'm quite out of the loop on a new FCC requirement for wireless signal boosters effective May 1, 2014.
From what I can gather, devices sold after that date must have a new FCC certification AND the consumer/user MUST register the devices with their wireless carriers. It sounds like there will not be any additional charge from the carriers (for now) and this is just so they can keep tabs on usage on their networks... and so they can tell you to stop if they want.
Here are a few links. I heard from the 3gstore that the new start date for the rules is now May 1. ALSO NOTE: existing devices are apparently going to be grandfathered in so might not require registration. But as you'll see at the verizon link below, they are asking you to register those as well.

First I had heard of this also. I follow several cellphone and data groups and have not seen any mention.
From a practical standpoint it shouldn't cause much of a problem and probably will be ignored by most users

Thanks for this. BTW, the FCC site seems to say the rules went into effect 3/1/2014.
<joking> I'm sure everyone using these boosters will totally comply, just as all CB radio folks are known to closely follow every nuance of the FCC rules. </joking>

Yes, but if you look at the right side of the fcc page, there are some orders/notices. I believe one is about the extension but it is hard to decipher. Go figure. I trust 3gstore's advice on the topic that it is now May 1. Further, the device makers don't seem to be quite ready yet and their new models that comply with the order are still "coming soon" on websites. That seems to add credibility to what 3gstore is saying.
Also, here is info from another web retailer quoting the difficult to understand FCC order...

Cool. I just hit Amazon and ordered a shiny new Wilson booster with the home/office antenna pack. With any luck, I beat the deadline.

This seems to be a pretty good closeout deal on the "pre FCC rule" Wilson Sleek. This model is nice because it is "universal" -- until recently, you needed a different model for different carriers 4G systems.

That is basically the same unit. The 460107 is the NEW unit certified for the new FCC rules! That may or may not be a good thing as I don't know if you'll be grandfathered or not!
Here's what the 3gstore told me in response to my question today:
Question: What is the difference between this and the old model? Wilson
lists it on their stie as 460107 - formerly 813426 suggesting it is just a
new model number?
Answer: 460107 is the new version, which meets the new FCC rules, which go
into effect on May 1. Both models are exactly the same in terms of function and features.
Note that the new FCC rules require the boosters to be sold as a kit with matching antennas and the whole bundle has been certified together.

I wonder if it will be enforced as well as the CB radio licensing. From what I recall they only used to enforce it when people caused issues, then I believe they dropped licensing all together.
I can see the need to certify them to avoid interference.
