Thanks for the heads-up on the iPhone/ipad app's. Do you know if this type of app require data? I'm asking because I'm a Canadian and we try really hard not to use data on our phones in the USA as they kill us on costs.

Hi Doug,

I stand corrected about my prior post which states that the Garmin RV760LMT did not disclose any altimeter function. I had read the owners manual for this unit and there is no reference or instruction relating to an altimeter function.

Since that time, I have received my RV760 and have been using it on the road for several weeks now. Earlier today , on the way back from Jacksonville, SuEllyn was playing with the 760, and came across some functions not included in any of the instructions that we had read.

There are five interactive tabs along the bottom of the screen. The second tab from the right is a raised gray tab that, by default, shows the ETA while on a trip. Pushing this tab discloses a list of features that you can monitor in this tab. One of these is elevation above sea level. Others include the mile marker that you are at, and the time of sunset.

This was a major find as far as we are concerned.

SchuHouse, those are my pics. The system works great and I would recommend mounting high. The rubber grommet through the light works too. it leaves any seals untouched. The ONLY thing I have noticed on my installation is that when I placed my camera I got it a bit to one side instead of dead on center. You do not notice the bit of wire running from the back of the camera to the running light. It looks factory to me with less holes and that is a good thing. After buying one system that failed about 4 months out with no recourse I would highly recommend the wireless Voyager. I did NOT buy a voyager monitor. The place in Louisiana I bought it from had another suggestion and what, he said, they use in their shop. It saved some money. I think it was RV Cams that I bought it from in Baton Rouge.

Just an update. We returned our Garmin rv 760. Two issues. 1. It couldn't find a campground that my apple map and google map had no issues with.
2. It froze up on one of the exits leaving the exit direction on the screen until we finally came to a new exit. I did more reading online and found similar issues from others. At that price point I expect more.
We are now about to try the rand mcnally rv 7720' I hope to have better luck
We still haven't installed camera. I guess I was trying to get gps down first.

Finally, after our visit to Jackson Center all is working perfect.
We have been using Rand McNally rv gps 7720. Much better directions than Garmin. ( note to Artic. It does have elevation reading)
While having some warranty work done I had factory installl Voyager camera. It works flawlessly with Rand. I did need to purchase correct video I put cord to make the interface work.
Now off to camping in lake George NY for a week and a half.

My current wireless system is cheesy and only works sometimes.

Most of these posts seem to be for on the back of a trailer/motorhome. I am looking for a wireless camera to mount on the back of my truck for hooking up and a monitor to put on the dash. Previously I had 3 small (3.5 in) ones but the monitors kept failing. Here is a picture of a Chinese supplier (1stsafe) on eBay that 'seems' to be pretty good especially given it has 4 channels and I understand that means less interference on the monitor. I would appreciate any feedback or other recommendations.

If you can deal with a small screen, I bought a Swift Hitch system with 2 wireless cameras, extended range antenna (so you could attach to the back of the Airstream in a tight situation), wireless receiver with color display and night vision. The cameras attach to your truck with magnetic base....put them anywhere...in 2 locations, and change channels on the monitor to see the other feed. I can literally back up to my hitch, push the button on my remote jack...and lower the tongue perfectly. It also comes in a single camera model. About 10 hours battery life.

Wired cameras have much better picture quality. My backup camera on the truck is wired- great picture.
My rear view camera on the trailer is wireless- poor quality, jittery image-

This is not true. It's like saying a mobile phone doesn't deliver the voice quality of a wired phone. The problem is with people who buy cheap systems or components and try to jury rig a wireless system.

I recorded the following YouTube video yesterday to demonstrate what is available using an iPhone in combination with quality components and technical expertise. While the video is not professional quality, I think it makes my point.

It is absolutely true. I have a wired camera and a wireless camera hooked up to the same monitor. I look at both images every day. I have posted pictures of both images before, and I would again except that I haven't renewed my paid membership yet and have lost my picture posting privilege. When I get home next week and pay my money again I will post pictures.
I understand the reason for having a wireless camera on the trailer, but there is absolutely no reason to have a wireless camera on the truck.
I would rather have a wired camera on the trailer so I could have better picture quality- one more thing to plug in- but I already paid money for what I've got so I'm gonna use it.

The Voyager works well for us as a wireless system. The camera is mounted high above the rear window and we get a strong signal in the cab. The power to the camera comes from the bullet spotlight above my bed attached to the bottom of the rear roof locker.

I forgot to turn off the display and saw myself leaving the storage area 500 feet away from the trailer.

Maybe I should have gotten a voyager. Surely I could patch it into the same monitor the same way I have the Rydeen patched in with a toggle switch to select truck camera or trailer camera.
The difference in quality could possibly be Audiovox vs. Rydeen.
The wired camera with the better quality image is an Audiovox and the crummy wireless camera is a Rydeen. I am so disappointed in the difference that I suggested to a Rydeen tech that they should cease manufacturing this piece of junk.
I'll use it till it quits, then do something better.
