Voila! Strange noises from stereo fixed!

After much fruitless discussion and trying a number of solutions, here is a success.

Strange noises are gone from the stereo and subwoofer on my 2007 Safari.

Some noises went away after I installed two noise filters on the power for the subwoofer and stereo (such as pump noise),
but the best result was a ground loop isolator on the subwoofer input.
No noise, even at very low volume.

My dealer mechanic recommended that, and even sent me one gratis.
You can get them at Radio Shack, about $20.

Seems grounding is not the Airstream's strong suite, even though it is
100% aluminium .

That's great news Hank. Don't suppose you can post any pictures of location and access and product, can you? I am on a par with using giant color coded fold-out posters with graphics to plug in my electronics.

I though about doing that but I was waiting until after the warrenty expires. I was hoping to put a filter on the converter output to stop it all.
$20? I am sure we can get them chaeper at an electronics supplier.

The install was easy (but then everything is unless you don't know how...

I plugged it into the stereo output that goes to the subwoofer (on mine, it's labeled "subwoofer mono" and is an rca jack connection. I then stuffed it back in there with all the other spaghetti, and screwed down the lid. No power necessary. I taped off the other input, because I did not use stereo.

However, it turned from 45 deg. to blowing snow and -4 today so I will take some pictures, but it won't be soon (ran out of propane to keep my fingees warm).

I don't think the converter does this subwoofer noise. It's a ground loop within the stereo output...

thanks for the info. i'll buy two. i kinda feel bad ,as i just sent back my airstream survey. most of the survey was about the stereo/dvd. how a company like airstream could not test this system ,is not possible. my dealer got great reviews but he also was at a loss to fix the stereo. he showed me other owners letters of complaint about new system. if this works i am sure he will send you a medal.

I've used isolation transformers (ground loop eliminators) on television remote trucks and pa systems for years. They have often been a lifesaver! One thing to note is that if you are using them for the part of your system which produces the mid or high frequencies, you may notice a very slight reduction in high frequency clarity. It's usually very slight and well worth getting rid of hum. For the sub, you shouldn't notice anything. By the way, they also make them for video. If you're looking for a less expensive audio unit, do a Google search for ScoscheES-034.
