Updates on Wireless back-up cameras?

Jpons, good information, and thank you.... I will let everyone know when I finally test it. If it's a complete fail, then I'll just post photos of track days and my daughters doing flips on trampolines so you can see the real value in a GoPro!

I know there was another person on the forum who tried using a GoPro but could not get it to work due to the delay of 2 or 3 seconds that GoPro puts in the camera over wifi. They write the video file to the memory then they send it out via wifi so the video feed is not real time. This doesn't sound like a problem but it is a big deal because the trailer moves a long way in 3 seconds.

I tried it, slow and the wifi won't reach thru all of that metal. I have a mount on the upper vent and sometimes the iPad can't reach outside the cab and communicate to the gopro.

The wifi security camera sends the signal to the front of my AS to the wifi router, which apparently amplifies it and sends it on to my iPhone. The wifi signal reading appears to be very strong. Of course I have only tested it in my backyard so far. Next month I will do a road test.

My camera on the back of the trailer worked well today except...
When driving in the rain, water pools up on the lens making it hard to see anything on the screen-

Same here in wet weather. Also, the winds in New Mexico were so bad they snapped the antenna right off our Voyager camera. We got that replaced in San Antonio at Texas RV supply. Great place! http://txrvsupply.com

Occasionally I will wipe the water off the lens at a rest area or fuel stop.

Got the rvrearviewcamera installed in my Sport 16 today.

Had to move 12v socket to the side so I could close the rollup storage door.

In back I connected to the hot side of a nearby led light, carefully observing polarity with use of a VOM.

Toilet paper tested the system: I hung a long sheet of tp over the rear window roller shade, turned on the overhead fan, and walked around outside checking the video. The moving tp assured me I didn't have a frozen picture.

I sat in my tv running the engine. No problem. Then I drove from my backyard to the front of my house, unhitched. I had a signal almost to the street in front, with my house between me and my AS.

NOTE: I don't know why 2 of my pics are sideways. They were oriented correctly in photos, and I cannot find any way here to rotate them. Strangely the 3rd photo came out correctly.

Has anyone installed the camera on this system outside near the center clearance light? My Classic 25fb rear dinette window has two accordion shade and when pull up all the way the distance from dinette cabinets to the lowest shade is about 6". The camera would have to have a long extension and would look ugly hanging down, at least I'm sure my DW would say.

The camera comes with the appropriate mounting plate, antenna, and picture orientation when ordered for exterior mounting. The installation would be the same complexity as other brands and there are some good examples on the forums. I chose the inside mount since I just felt that it was a little less prone to being ripped off. Jim

Jim - great looking installation. Is there a screen on that window, and if so, how does it impact the picture?

Yes there is a screen and it is a tiny bit visible but you have to look real hard to notice it. Same with rear window dirt, like in the rain. I have not had to make a special stop to clean the window. It is just like looking through your rear view mirror, same maintenance. Jim

I installed a Rear View Safety Wireless Backup Camera RVS-091406 at the top of the rear window between the screen and glass. Ran the wire between the window frame and behind the trim at the edge of the overhead cabinet and rear interior skin. Fished the wire (it has a miniature plug) through the hole where the wiring harness enters the overhead cabinet for the DVD. The antenna is mounted on the DVD box surround and I use the 12v plug on the left cabinet wall.

The first test was last week when we camped at Fort Stevens State Park near Astoria. I keep the camera on while driving and the 4.3" screen has to be turned to the bright side of the adjustment due to the darkened window glass that the camera is looking through which works well enough to easily see any tailgating vehicles and very well when backing into the camp site. $250 through Amazon and I am happy with the performance and ease of installation.

Since my AS is the 25fb the audio center with a 12v plug is in the back dinette cabinet. Since you got such good performance I'm wondering if I mounted the router in the back audio cabinet it there still would be sufficient range? The routers signal would have go further but it sounds like there is plenty of margin for range.

If the system uses WIFI to get the rear view signal what other actions can the phone do. I understand phone calls would work but can you use the Maps app for navigation while still connected to the rear view camera.
