A crumby one!
It is a Rydeen camera mounted to the license plate bracket. The wireless transmitter is in the wall behind the headboard (this may be part of my reception problem). The wireless receiver is in the dash/console behind the stereo in the truck (this could be part of my reception problem).
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it will work while driving all day long, but quit when it is time to back into a campsite.
It is all a good idea in theory that isn't really practical in the real world.
I wanted a second camera added to an existing monitor with a toggle switch.
Maybe I can change the locations of the transmitter and receiver and get better, more reliable reception.
Unrelated to the topic- we usually camp at the North Abutment campground in Grenada over Thanksgiving. I pitched the idea of going to the coast for Thanksgiving to my wife and I got no response. I wish I could get her on board with the Buccaneer State Park idea.

Hi,

I'm new here and not sure about where to post this so let me know if I am out of line.

Has anyone tried the iWatcher app on their Apple iPhone or iPad. I experimented today with my iPhone and iPad. I mounted the phone in the back of the AS looking out the back window and turned on the bluetooth camera. I was able to watch it on my iPad and my old iPhone. I got out of the trailer and sat in my TV. I actually started to drive away and was about 30-40 feet from the AS before it stopped working. I'm not sure how reliable it would be but I have an old iPhone 3GS that could become a dedicated camera and mp3 player.

Has anybody tried this?

Dan

We're still loving our Voyager setup. It's not inexpensive, but it works beautifully.

I'm looking at that system; it does look pretty good. How/where do you have your camera mounted, and how are you supplying power to it? Are there two power connections, or is it combined for the camera and router?

Thanks,
BobV

BobV: I mounted the camera on the bottom of the storage over the rear window, the camera looks out the window. I took power for it off of a reading light.

The router is in the front plugged into the 12v receptacle by the DVD player.

Wayne&Sam: Thanks. I could set mine up the exact same way; we have a 2013 rear bed FC. Are you completely satisfied with the view you get through the window and screen? Is the view wide enough? How good is the night view through the window (although we rarely drive after dark--just curious)?

Although you do see the screen in the view it doesn't bother me or effect the view. Yes, it's plenty wide, I have absolutely no blind spot. A a vehicle is leaving the camera view I see it in my side view mirror. I've driven in some huge downpours and you do see water drops on the window, but again, you can still see what's going on.

They say the IR night vision will not work through the glass. I haven't tried it, I haven't driven it at night.

That site doesn't give much info on the components that make up the system. How big is the router? Can the camera be mounted externally, is it waterproof?

I saw a baby monitor at Walmart last night that uses iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad for a monitor. Could this be placed in the back window of the trailer? $198 seemed a little high to me. Is this a good price?

Agree 100 percent with VOYAGER, we had it installed, I got the one with the 7 inch screen from rvcams.com about $550 worth every penny. I had my dealer install the camera just below the clearance lights.

Updates on Wireless back-up cameras?

Yes, that's what our dealer did, too. We now have a rear view from on high. The only thing I had to do was adjust the camera angle a bit while standing on a ladder. Pro tip: I parked the trailer first.

It's a regular Netgear router. It fits upright in the cabinet with the DVD player and uses the 12v outlet there. The router comes pre-configured for the camera, password protected. You then need to buy the $10 app on the iTunes store, input a few parameters they supply and you're good to go.

The camera can be mounted externally (yes it's waterproof), they give you two different brackets for mounting- use the one that works best.

I guess it depends on how it communicates to the iPhone/Touch/Pad. Wifi? Bluetooth? Even wifi, which has the greater distance, probably wouldn't make it to the device in the tow vehicle. Lots of aluminum in the way. Using a router at the front of the trailer eliminates that problem.

There's no question that people like the Voyager. Firedog1, you got a great price, I never saw it for that when I was looking.

But I like using my iPhone as the monitor since I always have it there anyway.

I was thinking of replacing my old portable Garmin GPS unit with a new Garmin RV 760LMT GPS for RV's. This can also be used a monitor for a Garmin BC20 wireless back up camera which I would mount on the back of my trailer. You can buy the complete package (GPS unit and camera) at The GPS Store for $350. Has anyone used one of these? It seemed to have good reviews.
