TV Mount Question?

Just back from our first extended trip and everything worked perfect! The only pain was removing and storing the TV each time we moved. I have an articulated mount for our 22" but the only place to attached it is on a wall that has the fridge on the other side. Do I need to remove the fridge so I can put a backing plate to spread the weight? If yes how big a job is that?? Thanks for the help!

In my 23' I have a microwave above the fridge I pulled that and mounted the arm higher I was able to reach down the wall a bit as well.

That's not the case with my model. There is only a small compartment above the fridge.

I have the same problem I to have to remove the TV every time we move. I even made a special plate that the mounting plate screws onto to spread the load out more, but I would not trust it for the extra load that is put on it while moving. I've been trying to come up with some kind of strap setup that could be used, but that is still in the works

We take ourd off / down each time also. The risk to the wall and the TV
are not worth leaving it up. There are only three to four small
screws on the back of the TV. I just don't tighten them too tight.

That wall material is so thin...I used supporting material on both
sides of the wall and longer bolts.

Have you thought about having a structural member fabricated to mount your swing arm to? That's what I ended up doing because I didn't have an ideal wall or cabinet to mount to. I see promise in your situation. There are a few ideas in this thread.

Hmm, I leave my 23" flat panel attached when towing? I specifically asked the service tech at the dealer I purchased from and he said no worries, leave the tv attached when towing. Mine is a newer model and I see most of you have older model airstreams that didn't come with flat panels originally. Mine does have a pretty large mount with about 10 screws securing it to the wall.

Wall Mount

We have the advantage of an open area behind the wall where we wanted to put the TV. We have added additional support in the bath but still would not risk attempting to drive with the television in place.

Our 32" HD with built in DVD.

Would have used an even bigger TV if we had a bigger wall!

The TV travels safely on the bed. The mattress moves forward on occasion but so far no mishaps.

It is easy enough to mount the TV on the wall, but there are times the connections are a little tedious.

Since the photos were taken we have removed the dinette and added recliners.

I would be careful with putting the TV on the bed if it is in the back. I was doing that till one time when we went through an exceptionally bad road work area and found the TV on the floor Still works If in front, the ride is smoother.

I fabricated a large panel with T-nuts and then used glue and #12 wood screws to install it on the shower wall in my Safari 25 FB. I've never even considered removing the TV's when I travel.

This may be my answer! What's a T-nut? Will it allow me to attach the backing plate to the wall without removing the refridgerator? I have the same articulating arm mount shown.

Faced with the same situation, I found and mounted an articulated TV mount to that horizontal shelf you have pictured instead of the wall above it. Just drilled a couple of holes and through bolted the base with big washers underneath.

A side benefit is that the low mounted TV is easier on the neck.

If you go to the first post in this thread and go to the last photo, you will see the factory wall mount in a modern (ie 2005 and newer, I think) Airstream. It attaches to the wall with (10), 1" wood screws. Thats it. I accidentally didn't fully latch the TV one trip and when I stopped for fuel and check the coach, the TV was fully extended on the mount , no worse for the wear that I could see. Everything is still very tight with no damage.

I agree, just because I do something is not exactly a great endorsement that someone else should try it. In my defense I will say we have a much thicker down comforter on the bed than shown in the foto and the tv does not move around. The mattress yes the tv no.
