Television (TV) will not turn on

2010 Flying Cloud 23FB - The red pilot light is lit on my Samsung TV. However, i have not been able to get the tv screen to come on. I am not yet connected to a receiver / satellite but it seems like the tv would at least come on. Has anyone had this problem or know what the problem may be?

Put your antenna up. Then go to the TV remote and change the input to Antenna. Then have the set look for channels automatically. This should get the screen to show you something. Usually it will stay black until it gets a signal. You could also check to see if it's working by putting a DVD in the player, turning it on and setting the TV to receive that signal.

Good luck, electronics are frustrating to say the least.

Because the tv is digital, the screen may remain black if there is no signal. Does the red stand-by light go off when you turn on the tv? Try hooking up an over-the-air digital antenna that sticks to a window...see if the tv will pull in any signals. Otherwise, there may be an issue with the tv...

Try pushing the input button on the remote a few times to cycle through the various line inputs.

I'm glad you clarified that a television is also known as a "TV" in your title...

The light indicates power is present but not that it's turned on. When you turn it on the light should be green (at least on mine it is). Can you get to the TV menu for setup? That's a button on the remote. You don't need any TV stations to use the setup menu. If you can't get there then you have an issue with the TV. I had a Samsung do that and it was cheaper to toss it in the trash and buy a new one.

Snarky as your comment may be, there's a ring of truth to it, since most people here on airForums mean "tow vehicle," not "television," when they use the acronym TV.

If you are using the remote to turn it on, have you replaced the remote batteries recently? They may be shot. Try finding the on/off switch on the television and seeing if that works directly.

Hmmm - as an outside observer, I inferred "irony" not "snarkitude". In this forum, I have to think about how to say TV when I mean TV and not TV (ironic :-) ).

Everyone's mileage varies though.

Have a salubrious day everyone! :-)

Good suggestions that I will try this evening. I did try the switch on the tv but I am prepared to change the remote batteries to try that as well.
Thank you.

I believe that the emoticon used was enough for even the most cognitively impaired readers to infer that I meant no "snark" with my silly, jovial response.

See how that works? Good.

Pity. Snarking is good clean fun for the whole family.

Most of us.

When you turn on a Samsung, the red light blinks and then the set comes on. The TV plays one bar of music. There is no green light on the newer ones. Go through the menu and check for antenna or cable and select whatever is appropriate for you. Check also that the TV speakers are turned on unless you have it attached to the trailer speakers. For sound through the trailer speakers, you have to turn on the radio and it will find the TV setting (except it hasn't worked for years on ours except for DVD's so I just use the TV speakers for TV programming).

On the one in our trailer, there are 2 places to attach the cable—one for antenna and one for cable. I got some short pieces of coaxial cable and screwed each into the two antenna/cable inputs, attached a splitter to them and them screwed that into the trailer system. That was you don't have to switch the trailer cable every time you have a different input. The trailer system may be screwed into the cable system rather than the external antenna on the roof. That could be your problem.

If there is no red light on the set, check the breakers.

I've been snarky for 14 years and love it. It is a welcome part of being a senior citizen. Now get off my grass! Oh, I don't have any grass—I live in a desert. Get off my tumbleweed!
