RV Rearview Camera System

We purchased a wireless back up system through Amazon and installed it on our International 30 when it was new. The system was called RV Rearview Camera and the gentleman I corresponded with to set it up was Fred Stokes. On our first trip this season, we had some trouble with it freezing and losing the image as we were going down the road. We tried to contact Fred to get some troubleshooting advice but the company seems to have gone out of business.

Does anyone have any info on how to contact Fred or does anyone have any experience with this system that can offer some troubleshooting advice? The website was rvrearviewcamera.com but it seems to be off the air.
Thanks,
Jim

I've seen Fred post on here from time to time, as acstokes. You could try to PM him.

Have you tried just powering everything off and back on, including the router?

Excellent, thanks. I will send him a PM.

Yes, we did power everything down and brought it back up but still had the same intermittent issue. I had previously learned about keeping the iPhone cool since you have to leave it plugged in to charge so have it clip mounted to the AC vent.

I have the same system. I get the freezing very rarely and only briefly. I've always written it off to some interference with the wifi signal. Keeping the phone cool is important (mine's black in a black case) but mounting it near the AC vent as you did fixed that.

I also have the same system with the same issues. We find that restarting both the router and ipvision solves the intermittent operating problem. The newest issue, however, is a lack of an update from ipvision so that the system will work with IOS 11. I have not received any answer from my queries to ipvision nor have I been able to find a way to contact Fred Stokes. With IOS 11 on my iPhone 5, I am currently having no rear view camera and it is one of those things that I now really miss.

When I say “restarting”, I actually mean reconnecting the router and ipvision with the iPhone. It’s a job that my navigator has gotten quite good at.
Still no word from ipvision and Fred Stokes is not available. Jim

Yet another reason why I don't succumb to Apple's insistence on upgrading iOS every year. The main reason being that eventually your device hardware isn't up to the task of running the newest software and you get so frustrated waiting for it to slowly do what you asked it to do that you throw it out the window.

My iPad Air 2 is on iOS 9.3 and my iPhone 6 Plus is on iOS 10, and neither will ever get a newer iOS. I generally upgrade a new device twice and that's it.

I have exactly the same problem. I have been avoiding the issue by not upgrading the iPhone to the new IOs system. My 35 year-old daughter is working on the permanent solution. I do not think we can count on ipvision (which is a Brazilian company).

Hi Dave,
I have been sending an email to ipvision daily and their auto response is that they will get back to me, but of course they never do.
Please keep us in the loop should your daughter come up with a fix.

I am very hopeful my daughter's friends can figure this out. She works for an IT firm in NYC that services wealthy clients/companies. They set up everything from large computer networks to entertainment systems for those same people. I have given them all the details on this system on Monday. If that bunch of geeks can't figure it out, no one can.

It should be pretty simple. We just need to extract the MAC code out of the camera and install it in the wireless router. I found another software system for $5 (like ipvision) that is compatible with IOS 11 on the iPhones and should work.

I am taking my last trip into the mountains today for a hunting weekend. After that, I am taking the system out of the trailer and sending it to her if I cannot crack the MAC code. I will keep you all informed.

BTW, I tried contacting Fred several weeks ago at his old rear view camera email, but the email account is now inactive.

This is very interesting - I didn't realize that ipvision was a Brazilian company although it looks like knowing that isn't going to help much

What I do is keep an older model iPhone (I don't sell or trade them in so have 2 or 3 of them hanging around) that is not upgraded to use with the system. That also keep the phone compatiable with the Lockpick system in the truck.

Thanks for the info.

Hi Dave
Your comments provide some hope.
I contacted the Canadian arm of IP vision and it appears they follow the Brazilian lead, no response. The app is still available for purchase at the App Store which does not seem all that ethical.

Oh boy, you are making me real glad I went with a hard wired camera system instead...

I have the first system Fred sold. I've loved it, but now that ipvision is not supported I'm deciding what to do. I contacted the camera maker and they sent me some info, but also said that Apple's video implementation is now not optimized for this kind of use. I still have to try out what they sent me, and will get to it before next season. If it doesn't work, I may use an old, un-updated iPad or go with a Voyager.

Let's keep sharing information here.
