Routing a XM/Sirius Antenna Wire

Finding a good way to get an XM antenna wire from the roof to inside our Airstream is a challenge. We had to replace our leaking front skylight with a new Maxim skylight and that gave us the opportunity to route the wire on the edge of the skylight into the cabin. The wire was then slid under the plastic ceiling trim to the point where we mounted our XM radio making for hidden wiring. The small antenna itself was epoxied to the top edge of the Maxim metal frame. Most Airstream owners will be forced to replace their cheap factory installed skylights and this is a good opportunity to mount a small satelite antenna to the roof if need one.

By the way, the Maxim skylight is so much better than the original, it's worth considering when you need to replace the thin, brittle plastic skylights that come from the factory.

I really recommend using a stand alone marine Sirus/XM antenna. The small magnetic plastic antenna and wire that comes with the satellite radios will not hold up to years of UV. See my installation notes on this thread 9/29/2012.
