Replaced 28” Samsung with 32” Samsung

For those of you that might be interested, the Samsung UN32M5300AFXZA 32” TV works beautifully as a replacement for the 28” Samsung in most recent Airstream trailers. $250 off Amazon!

I wanted a larger TV without adjusting the mount in the living room and after careful measurements, determined that 32” was the largest size that I could fit as there’s basically nothing on the market in between 32” and 40”.

The SmartTV features such as Netflix is pretty nice too. The TV is a bit lighter as well. Energy use seems to be about the same.

Potential negative for some people is that there’s no RCA audio out, just digital audio out. Another negative that can actually be a positive is the external 120v AC to DC transformer — this makes me wonder if I could do a 12v DC to ~17v DC step up transformer and not have to use the inverter.

The swap was relatively straightforward. Flip safety tab, lift from mount, use drill to move the mounting bracket from old TV to new TV, put new TV up. The old power cable plugs straight into the transformer, so no need to pull it from the wall.

You may need:

* coax extension cable, as the antenna input is farther out
* HDMI “L” adapter in the opposite direction of the original TV’s.

Sadly and hilariously, no one at the RV storage place wanted the old 28” TV. Amazing how quickly old electronics devalue.

Looks great.
So what about the sound?
My rig uses the RCA audio out to drive the trailer audio speakers.

That’s one of the caveats I pointed out. The new TV doesn’t have RCA out, it has a digital out. Looking at the old television, it looks like the RCA out was a modification, where they spliced it in internally,

It looks like an easy workaround - get a digital audio to RCA converter and power it using the TVs USB port.

https://www.amazon.com/Easyday-Digit...+converter+usb

In fact, I’m ordering one of these and will report back as to how it works.

We also bought a 32" to replace the 28" in our LR and moved the 28" to the BR to replace the 24".

How did you get it off the wall??

We would love to do this, but have been unable to figure out how to get the mounted television off the wall.

Do tell, with specifics, please!

I'd consider using the digital audio out into a sound bar located above or below the TV.
Most now have bluetooth, so you can also stream music from your phone too.

Little metal thing=Safety tab.

Move it to the side and lift the TV off.

Where is the safety tab?

I am sure I am missing something obvious, but can't figure out how to get the tv off the wall. Where is the safety tab?

I’m heading to the RV storage place today to do some trip prep today and will take a picture and share here.

I haven’t gotten my TOSlink to RCA adapter yet, so installing it will have to wait.

I am having trouble figuring out how to release the mount for the rear TV to replace it with the old TV as I don’t appear to have the strap everyone mentions. Any hints?

For those still trying to figure this out, the safety tab hangs down and prevents the TV from popping off the mount when you drive over a bump. If you rotate it 180 deg, you'll create enough space to lift the TV off the mount. It's hard to reach so you'll need some long, thin pliers or something similar. GL, Dave

Great idea. A caveat though is that RCA/TRSS connections generally have better audio quality than Bluetooths 64kbps headset profile or A2DP 128-384kbps profile.

But it depends on the listeners ears, the RCA cables, and the quality of the receiver. Myself, being deaf, I hardly make the best judge.

Nice, but how does it look as it's pulled away from the wall?

Static mount like the factory install unit. That 40 inch consumes the entire wall and the static mount holds it's close to the wall and it does not intruding into the dinette seating area. Bose Solo has Blue-tooth so I can stream music from my computer, iPad, or iPhone with quality sound.

Oh, static I thought it was like mine. I plan to change out one of the 2 in mine here shortly and I’ll be full time come end of December.
