you could buy it and leave it outside for 3 months to see if it rusts

Radio Shack does have the part

Becky,

I had the same problem with the antenna wire when I replaced mine. I found the part at Radio Shack. I will admit it took investigating several stores but found one finally. I think this is the part Solderless Motorola-Type Inline Jack - RadioShack.com

Even if this isn't the one, they do have it...I swear.

Good Luck
Chris

It's the antenna itself that's rusting. Radio Shack was the first place I went locally to look for a new one (before I got my cheapie one off ebay)

Just a note about the antennae. My '72 Overlander, and most 70s Airstreams, have a TV outlet on the street side wall just forward of the fridge (or whatever cabinets are installed on that side). In that outlet, which includes a 12V source, there is an old-style balun splitter that feeds a coax that goes to the overhead box in the end cap. That was the original FM radio feed. So you're likely to find two coax behind that box--one directly from your whip antenna location, and one from the TV outlet.

BTW, if anyone finds an antenna similar to this one http://www.airforums.com/forums/show...15&postcount=1 I'd sure like to know.

Zep, check out my thread in the radio section of the forum. Ganglin found an almost exact replacement. If you can find the post let me know. George.
