Looking for 1967 Overlander radio and TV antenna

Hi guys...I know that someone has stepped in this particular discussion SOMEWHERE on the forums, but I sure couldn't find it.

I am looking for an original or originalish looking exterior radio and TV antenna for my 1967 Overlander. All I have are holes and some of the mounting parts.

The first pic is my neighbor's 68 or 69 Overlander, which is complete in that area. The second is of mine showing what is missing.

Your neighbor's antenna doesn't appear to be complete. The radio antenna on our '66 Trade Wind is a CB type whip. That is orginal. I also have the original TV antenna on ours. If you need a picture of what it looks like I can photograph it. Let me know. As far to finding one try RV salvage yards and keep checking eBay.

Thanks

Antenna pictures

Howdy, Tex; We had a break in our weather so I snapped these pictures of our '66 Trade Wind antenna. The PO handed me it and it was more than a year before I thought it would look cool on our coach. It was somewhat corroded but polished up easily. The old flat antenna wire was toast and the wire inside is nowhere to be found in the walls so you see I used coax to a connection inside. Also inside you will see the crank to swing the antenna in different directions. The antenna of course deploys at a height above the flag on the radio whip antenna. I could not show that with it under the shelter. I am sure you can find an antenna with a bit of searching. Best wishes.
Neil.

Unfortunately the original TV antenna that is pictured in the photos was made for VHF television channels only, 2-13 and had no provisions for UHF frequencies, which are the ones primarily used today (analog or digital, makes no difference). So although it may work on strong UHF signals, it is not a very good antenna for most of what is transmitted now which are mainly channels above 14 in the UHF spectrum.

BTW, the original channels 2-6 are not used at all today, and even though your local station may still call themselves "channel 3" they will actually be broadcasting on a UHF channel.

The side mount radio antenna is available from a number of locations, including I think Vintage Trailer Supply. It is also on Amazon.com and maybe even new on ebay.

Have fun with your restoration.

The antenna shown is the exact one that is on our '65 Caravel. I installed a Vizio flat screen HD tv some years ago. That antenna works just fine. It picks up all over the air channels both VHF and UHF. If you look closely, there is a UHF loop incorporated in the antenna. I used a length of lamp cord and a cord-to-cable connector, just like the ones used to connect rabbit ears, to hook it up.
