Darrell,
I don't know a lot about the Akai brand but for that price if the picture is decent it would fit in the category of Good Enough. I paid a lot more than that for our portable 9" DVD player a few years back. It is our life line when flying or long-haul towing with my 3 year old. She can ride for many hours without a complaint as long as anything Disney or what ever her new favorite DVD that week is rolling. Do a couple of searches there is some good info in the forums about mounting brackets also.
Good Luck,

I have a 15" Magnavox which has a very poor picture. The hi lights are blown out and the shadows have no detail. We take it for granted that TV's have good quality pictures and good tuners but this new crop of LCD's can be of poor quality. I would not buy another LCD without seeing the picture first. The Magnavox is so poor I watch DVD's only on my laptop's LCD.

Great deal

Seems like a really good deal, and is a great choice for a mobile environment.
DVD player built in, and runs on 12VDC...can't go wrong.
Looks like it also has a PC input, meaning that it could double as a monitor in a pinch.
Heck, I might get one for Area 51..

We bought a 15" Sylvania LCD from our local wholesale club, for almost exactly the same amount as you did. Picture and sound are good, although it has an NTSC tuner (the one being phased out).

We just purchased a 15" Magnavox from Wal*Mart. Paid $228+tax. Is a great LCD with a tuner. Works very well with our Philips mini-system. Still need to hook it up to Dish to see how that looks.
