Insignia LED TV's at best buys 12 volt model overview
Went looking for 19" and 24" LED TV for 2005 AS we bought earlier this month. the original unit in bedroom was an old 19" magnavox 12 volt unit with analog only tuner so time to upgrade.
we found both sizes at best buy and noticed the store models were both 12 volt powered with "transformer" that plugs into 120v outlet. I thinking this is great both powered by 12 volts so great when off the grid type camping.
We picked up the 19" at store and 24 was shipped to us. We took the 19" home and checked the wall mount bracket to check for fit.. every looked good but was bummed to see a 120v plug on the back..
the 24" came to the house today and i opened to check it out and get a nice surprise.. it was 12volt powered .
I hooked it up to OTA antenna and get 35 digital stations. Also hooked up 120 /12v transformer to my "Kill o watt" meter.. upon turn on the watts go up to a steady 25watts.. or .035-.036 amps and 42 to 44 VA., which is a nice low draw on batteries.
I might go back to store and check inventory to see if I can find a 19" 12v unit I can swap with.. fingers crossed.
the picture is good and with the smaller screen the 720 resolution looks as good as 1080 on larger set at a lower price. 19" 80.00,, 24" was 139.00 and free shipping.
sound is OK but when we get it hooked up to trailer sound system i should be better for sure.
hope this helps.

Ditto, I have had an Insignia Best Buy 21 inch in my trailer for a couple of years. It came with two wire set ups. 110 and 12 volt. It is actually a 12 volt TV. The 110 plug uses a transformer to convert 110 to 12 volt. In operation I can not tell the difference. Excellant picture quality. Mine was an open box special for about 50% off their normal price. I always ask at Best Buy for open box items. Most like the TV seem to not even been actually removed from the box or used in any way.

I purchased the Insignia 28" LED with DVD combo. The power is a brick that plugs into the wall outlet and a round connector that plugs into the TV. When looking at the specs in the user guide it show Power Input DC 12v 4A. Are you saying I could run this TV directly from the 12v socket if I found a 12v plug that has the same connector to the TV?
Something like this?

I have this TV/DVD combo and I run it off 12V battery. I would advice using a voltage regulator to prevent power surges that might hurt the TV's electronics.

Can you post a link to a product is is it something you built?
Several Amazon user reviews state this cable works fine on their Insignia TV.
Here is another one from Amazon. It uses a curley cord cable which I like better.

I have run two different TV's from 11-14v with no issues. They don't need an exact 12v. The current TV I have had in the Airstream for 2 1/2 years. Use it daily. The back says DC-14. You'll be fine with without a regulator.

How did you get 12v to the tv? I have outlets for 110 and inverter 110.

Newer trailers may not have them

Older trailers (not sure when they stopped providing this) have a cigarette lighter socket in the vicinity of the TV cable jacks. My 2001 Safari 25 and my 2002 Classic 30 slideout both have them.

My 2008 Classic 25fb has a 12v socket in the TV area. I'm hoping this works because using the 120v/DC brick from my Insignia TV blocks the Leviton wall outlet's USB ports. I installed that outlet last year and would like to be able to use the USB ports again.

My 2011 Safari has two standard 12 volt outlets located front and rear near the TV cable plugs. I use the rear outlet for a 12 volt fan and the front outlet for a battery monitor gauge. When powering the Tv by 12 volt I remove the battery guage and plug in the TV.

Was thinking about an inverter.
Thanks again for the Post. I was seriously chewing on an inverter. I just installed an "WIFI Camp Pro" Tube U Antenna for watching Netflix on my laptop attached via a HDMI cable to a 110V 32" TV. Sound comes from the laptop via blue tooth thru a pioneer car stereo attached to the trailer speakers with an added car sub system installed under the jackknife couch.
So I will purchase the Insignia 32" 12v TV to go with the Camp Pro, which also runs off 12V. Now if I Can find a "Blue Ray DVD Smart Player" that runs off 12V I could hard wire the sound straight into the Pioneer. I could add a network router (most run off 12v) That would free up the laptop for surfing while watching a movie.
I am thinking I would run the whole system dedicated 12V with a main power switch to conserve while boondocking.
Any one see any flaws in my thinking? What about a common ground in a setup like this?

On our unit there is a 12v round socket with the cable/TV antenna hookup on the wall in the back bedroom.. (2005 31D Classic) When i pulled it off the wires on socket were only like a 22ga but the wire coming to it was like a 12 ga, much heavier wire capable of more amps.
In the dinette area there is another 12v socket for tv with power button (must be some kind of signal amplifier) and it states no more than 8 amp load.. which is like 800 watts so a 25 watt 12v TV is not going to overload the deal..
No need for surge arrester as the power from a 12v battery is smooth.
SO, yes you can power a 4a 12 volt TV from the wall socket.. if you have one. on my unit all lights, fans, heater, water heater, refrigator have or use 12v.

UPDATE: Went back to Bestbuy and got to looking at other inventory of the 19" size and found one that shows "DC in" on a picture on box. Bought that one and will be taking the 120v one back..
so now both are 12v powered and I am a "happy camper"

I included a 12v cable in an Amazon purchase a couple of days ago. I'll get it next week and will report. I didn't even think about this capability when I purchased the TV. I just wanted the largest TV to fit on the fridge wall and the DVD is nice. I've ripped out the Sony radio/DVD head in the overhead cabinets. I've ordered a Riva Turbo X bluetooth speaker to connect via its Aux input to the 3.5mm audio out on the TV. The Riva is $300 but reviewing all the BT speakers on youTube this one fit the bill for us for sound quality, battery life, size and looks. I can pair with it to play back our music from our phones and other devices. The Airstream speakers are behind pleated curtains and will be left in place. The large hole in the cabinet will be patched with thin plywood sheeting and then painted. Pretty much doubles the storage in that cabinet now. Now we only have to deal with one remote for TV, DVD and audio levels.

FYI, most LED TVs work on 12-14v internally and have a converter inside the casing. You will also discover Samsung and LG makes a few models under 24" which have the 'AC Adpater' in the cable which can also be used in a trailer by bypassing the wire.

I purchased this 12v cable from Amazon a few days ago and received it yesterday. I tried it out and it works on my Insignia 28" LED DVD Combo. I didn't try built in DVD player but the TV powered up and displayed a picture. I only ran it for about 10 minutes.

Because of this thread I purchased the 32 inch Insignia LED TV's at Best Buy (12 volt model) Along with a 12v Sony Sony Blue ray player. I also included a Netgear Network Switch that runs on 12V along with a WiFi Camp Pro Antenna that drives the system. It will pull in WiFi from a mile away. Now I can be on my laptop surfing the net, watching Netflix and have my phone on the network all at the same time. All with out a invert-er.
Oh by the way I have the sound pumped thew the tailor sound system that includes a sub. I can hardly wait to take it for a spin.
Thanks every one for the input. FYI if you get the chance The WiFi Camp Pro is well worth the 100.00.

Note, the 12v plug has only a 3amp fuse. My 28" Insignia is rated 4amps and the 32" is 5amps. Hopefully you won't have an issue with the fuse.
