HELP! Before we cord-cut Dish Network

When we go for a couple of weeks without using the Tailgater and VP-11K receiver, our receiver becomes "unauthorized" to display the channels. We call Dish, waste time with the first one or to reps who don't know anything, before getting someone who knows enough to get us back online. This process takes 30-45 minutes. After having to sit thru this Dog & Pony show for the 4th time, we've had it! Has anyone else had a similar experience and is there a cure? Thanks...

Maybe bring it home and fire it up once a week on the back deck?

I think a call to Dish telling them to either fix it or cancel the account is in order.

My DirecTV receiver does the same thing, but I can log into my account and reset any of my receivers. Does Dish not provide that service? Painless, takes seconds.

Last time I called I talked to tech support. They did the reauthorization. The one I talked to told me to always take the tech support option rather than the customer service folks. He said those folks really aren't familiar with the reauthorization process for those of us who have the Tailgaters and our associated 211 receivers. I always reauthorize while at home prior to leaving. That gives me assurance that everything is working from a known good site.

I typically deauthorize the receiver once I get home. No need to pay for the service between outings.

Yes, I have also been very tired of this and was told last time that you can now log on to the website and click on "Chat". Explain what you want and provide the current address and zip code and you will also receive locals where you are. I do this every time I move and it is much quicker and easier.

I concur. I cancelled my DirecTV and will be switching to Dish, ask them to resend the re-authorization code to the box. That should be it.

This doesn't just occur with satellite tv but even cable. I ran a small motel/campground this summer and if the cable box wasn't used in two weeks you had to call in and reauthorize it. Since we issued cable boxes to the RVs (and not everyone wanted one if they had a satellite) I usually had to do this every time. At least a fifteen minutes on hold every time.

After many similar calls to DirecTV, they finally gave me the direct number to the technician. It is especially helpful when requesting that local channels be reset for my location. Good luck.

Yes there is a cure. Dump them and just use UR antenna it works just fine in almost anyplace. Unless U have things U really need to see. I also only have antenna tv at home and we R happy with the locale channels.

It's one of those new-dangled distractions from a magnificent view of the great outdoors, I suspect...

Direct in the RV was worse for us. At times never got it straight. Switched to Dish, and then just go to Tech support.

I have Dish
I take my system home at the end of every trip. I hook it up to a spare tv and watch something a couple of times a week. I did have the described problem once. A call to the Dish tech and authorization code got me up and running.

I got rid of the dish a decade ago and could not be happier. Rabbit ears is all I use.
I had 300 channels and there still wasn't jack to watch.
Now I've got a dozen. Still nothing to see but it's free.
