Hdtv in trailer
I plan on upgrading to DISH 1000 for their HD channels. I currently have a flat screen Sony TV that is digital. Planning on a new LCD, receiver, and satellite antenna. Will I be able to connect from the reciever to the "TV in" coaxial plug on the AS wall as I currently am, or, will different wiring be required? If so, should I run it through the wall, or maybe just set the receiver under where the TV hangs on the wall and run wires straight up?

Here’s a link to my solution: http://www.airforums.com/photos/showimage.php?i=15899&c=500&userid=17830. I didn’t have a coax in so I put one below the cassette deck on the skin and came up through the floor behind the bottom shelf. Your current wiring should be ok.

So, you're saying that the existing sat ready coax between the cable in and the jumper cable will be adequate for HDTV satellite signal to come into the Airstream?

The coax is identical. The DISH 1000 has two lines that are joined at the dish itself, and only one coax runs from there. I have the ViP622 DishHD DVR Receiver and am extremely pleased with it. I rarely watch non-HDTV shows. I do have to pickup my local channels with my old Braund antenna on top because Little Rock locals are not HD via Dish right now, but the 622 will record them just fine from the antenna.

From the reciever to the TV you are running coaxial cable rather than HDMI cable? The tech at Best Buy suggested the HD quality would suffer. Good news if I can use the coaxial that is already in the wall.

Hi Tom,
The Dish 1000 is the actual satellite dish. We are discussing the lead in from the dish to the receiver. HDMI is how my receiver to TV connection is made, and you are correct, it is the best currently available. Your in the wall coax should be just fine to the receiver.

Tom,
The Batwing and present amp/connector work fine with over the air HD. THe cabling in the trailer works with my directv HD dish. It should work with Dish.

In this month's Blue Beret, there was an article that stated that all the signals had to be digital by 2009. I thought it was Feb. 2008. I guess that was wrong. Anyway, I thought also (probably wrong again) that most all Directv channels would be high def in early '08. I guess my question is, whichever date the switchover occurs to high def, will current Directv customers have to buy new dishes and receivers or will Directv send them new ones? I bought my dish and receivers before they started providing them to you and I own them. I did agree to a two year contract for a DVR a couple of years ago and don't have a problem with that because I'm satisfied with Directv and don't plan on changing. Does anybody know what the HDTV protocol will be when that becomes standard?

Protocol is probably the wrong term. I guess what I mean is, will it be the blue ray or the other, is it HI DEF DVD? Most of the commercials I see advertise "available on DVD or Blue Ray. I kind of understand the Blue Ray thing being a blue laser that reads at a higher frequency than the current red laser frequency and can, thus, allow for more data, i.e., higher resolution on a disk of the same diameter. I'm wondering if the HIGH DEF Directv will make any difference with the DVR and the ability to record to a DVD. I currently have a DVD recorder that I can record from my DVR to DVD if I decide to keep a program I "TiVO". (I know, proprietary name, but so is Xerox my I make lots of Xerox copies on our Cannon copier ). Boy, I used to keep up with technology so much more than now.

The over the air HD is not part of the Blue-ray HD-DVD stuff that is for DVD mvies only. I am waiting until someone make an affordable combo player or one of them goes away.
There is only one format for over the air HD. if it comes across a satellite not to worry. the reciever puts it into a format your HDTV understands.

Ditto. Though I’m told that Blu-Ray sales are leading right now, someone has to die before I will invest.

Blu-ray vs HD-DVD depending on who stats you read HD-DVD is winning or BLu-Ray is winning. They are both going to lose if they don't put out a combo player.... I refuse to buy two players.

I do too. My expectation is that eventually one will win and media for the loosing format will become as unavailable as Beta, making a combo redundant. It may take a while, but that’s what I’m waiting for.

Most if not all TV stations are broadcasting dual analog and digital signals at this time. I've been getting digital off air through my DirecTV receiver that has a built in ATSC tuner for off air signals. Works slick, you put your zip code in and it searches for all the digital signals in your area. Then it puts them in the DirecTV program guide!

Dish also shows the local over the air stations in the guide. Records them just fine too.
