Digital Audio Connection...

I just replaced our analog Sony TV with a Samsung LCD TV. Other than the fact the top of the wall mount shows because the Samsung attachment points are higher than the Sony's, the TV works great without the need for a converter... except that if I want the sound from the TV to run through the trailer speaker system it appears I need to purchase a "digital to analog audio converter" (such as: Genfen digital audio to analog audio converter) because the TV supports digital audio out and not the "old" standard analog left/right connection. In addition, the converter needs power to operate. Has anyone made this connection, used this product (or similar)?

I could live with listening to the TV only from the TV speakers. The DVD plays through the trailer sound system, but I enjoyed the TV sound through the trailer system of the old TV.

Really? A TV with only digital outputs? Not even a headphone jack?
What model is it?

Digital audio converter

Samsung LN19C350D1D LCD TV 19". It does have a headphone jack but that isn't compatible with the left/right connection either... unless. Maybe I'll see if there i a product that allows both the right and left jacks plug into a splitter which then goes into the headphone jack. Might work. Thanks for the tip.

I did find a digital converter at Amazon for $56.39 plus the cable!

A 3.5mm stereo plug to 2 RCA connector cable is readily available and cheap. Here's a link to one, but they should be available at Target, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, etc.

PS: I was looking for the link to monoprice while you were posting that you'd already found the same thing, though you should buy one with a longer cable.

I received the headphone converter jack from Amazon and tried it out. Does not work. I'm going to plug some headphones in and make sure they work. If they work then I guess I'll test the new connector to make sure it isn't defective. Seems like it should be a quick and easy fix here.

We made this same change & connected all original cables to the HD set. Everything works, as before, even the built-in speakers. If I remember correctly, when you run the set-up, you will be able to set the audio connections...turn on the aux. speakers.

I wear wireless hearing aids that are BlueTooth compatable. The current TV in our trailer does not have Audio Outs. The red and white Audio jacks is where I would plug my BlueTooth into.

I am currently looking for a new TV with built in DVD player and the red and white Audio Outs. Slim pickings on TV's. Many current TV's have the digital audio out and not the analog outs.

I am wondering if the analog to digital converter, menioned above, would work? I just need to go from analog to digital.

While I'm out of it, whats a good brand TV that holds up to the rigors of road travel?

gaylejoe: I don't know any specifics about what you're trying to set up, but if you're having problems finding a TV with analog audio outs, you can possibly find analog outputs on the head unit in your Airstream, or a replacement head unit for it. You might need to get to the back of the head unit inside the cabinet to access them. Of course this is more complex than just plugging into the TV itself, but plugging into the head unit gets you access to radio and CDs as well as the TV (assuming the TV is routed through the head unit.)

Update. I still don't have the TV playing through the speakers but after doing some research in the owner's manual of the radio/cd/dvd player apparently the lack of sound is due to the fact that the "source" doesn't recognize the TV which is likely due to how things are currently wired.

I sent my radio unit for an exchange with Sony because the sound was distorted while playing CD/DVD. When I get it back I am going to figure out the wiring issue and hopefully will have the sound playing through the system. If not, the TV is loud enough that I can live with the TV speakers but it would be nice to have it on the system.
