Connecting iPod to 2007 Safari

just bought a 2007 25ft Safari. It has a great Sony Audio package. I would love to play my itunes library through the system. There is what looks like a Aux inlet above front couch in cupboard. It has a 3 way switch that says iN, OUT and BOTH. None of these settings help. The radio source only has CD & Tuner. Am I just not compatible for iTunes? or does anybody know what i need to add.

Should be two RCA input jacks there that you can attach to with a RCA/mini jack cable.

I found a usb input box in the void behind my sony head unit. In my opinion the wiring for the system hasn't been designed well and the sony multi input box is underutilized. I plan to pull everything out and rewire it when I have time. I've been using my spare time to find and seal leaks and take care of other more pressing manitenence issues. I'll plan a weekend by myself at a park with hookups with some beer and a soldering iron and a camera for documentation and I'll let you know what I come up with. First to go will be the wierd summing card feeding the sub that clicks pops and Buzzes when DVD's are playing. The Head unit has a sub output. Not sure why AS didn't use it.

Go to the forums search function. Search on only one term: xplod

Xplod is the name of the proprietary Sony system for audio/video/sound. Once upon a time, Sony had their own mp3 player and they chose to make their automotive stereos incompatible with Apple i-systems. They sell an intermediate piece of equipment to work with iPods that has a very poor interface. Here's one of my posts on the topic. But I'd better give credit to member myoung for helping me see the light.

My info isn't more current than 2-3 years ago. Don't know what the factory is installing now. On a tour at the mothership 3 years ago I couldn't explain my complaints about them using Sony because their young audio wizard was 'gone that day'.

Thanks. I'll research the thread before banging my head against the wall trying to control the Ipod. I want to re-wire the thing anyway and upgrade the speakers. I've designed and installed many screening room and theatre sound systems and thought maybe that I'd rewire for a 5.1 system in the 27FB but between the aesthetics of speakers everywhere and the fact that the down firing dinette speakers let the kids watch a film loud enough while it's still fairly quiet in the bedroom or outside I've decided against it. Maybe I could gut a Bambi, turn it into a screening room, combi-tow the 27FB and a 16' screening room behind!

Brad

I found a cord at Micro Center that connects the Aux input jack on the Sony unit to the headphone jack on the iPod, iPad or iPhone to allow play from iTunes. The fidelity is excellent. No rewiring necessary. But the iPod isn't being charged so play time is limited to a few hours.

I had to buy this box in my 2007 in order to hook up the TV through the AS speaker system. I cannot for the life of me remember what it is called. In 2010, when I bought my AS, the radio and box were considered old and not supported by Sony. I found one of the boxes online from a third party as Sony didn't have any and didn't support it anymore.

I just remembered. Part of the reason I also needed the box was because my AS was not equipped with the AV upgrade package. So to add a sub-woofer, I had to get the input interface box.

I used the mini/RCA cable. It cost $5.00 from Walmart. I works great. I did have the Sony upgrade audio package. Thanks all for your help.
