Car radios

Seems like the only radios these days that have decent sensitivity and selectivity are the AM/FM/CD car radios. I've got a few left over from upgrades as the technology has advanced to MP3-CDs and front panel USB ports.

So here's the deal. I'm going to put one into a boom box for the shop. I haven't picked which one, but as soon as I can find the time to see which has the best selectivity, that's the one. I'm going to use a pair of the old Airstream Learjet speakers and a FM whip antenna ($14. oops, crap, just checked and the price is now $10) that I found on another thread.

The rest are free to good homes (shipping and handling, as it says in the small print, are "extra"). All have the pigtail connector and three of the four have the metal retention/support insert. The follwing two will play MP3 CDs and have remote controls.

These are basic audio CD players (as well as AM/FM radios)

Another nice offer, Zep!

I'm sure someone can make good use of your older radios.

Nice looking boom box, but for sheer over-the-top design, there is the Lev-Blaster. On the other hand, yours will pickup radio, a big plus in your design.

Come to think of it, I should make a boom box out of some of my old stuff. I could use one.

..I have noticed that some of the more sensitive AND selective car radios are the factory GM units from the mid to late 90s...

I was just informed that my 2022 25FB is being shipped to my dealer without a radio. Can anyone tell me what radio maker AS is now putting in their trailers? Also a model number would help. I want to try and source it outside of AS so that I do not have to drive back the 1.5 hr. to the dealer to have a radio installed.

Rgwatkin,
We have a 2020 FC with a JL Audio MediaMaster 50. It is a TOTAL WASTE of space. It may be because of the antenna, but it won’t pick up anything, and A-S didn’t even supply an audio input from the DVD player or TV (which also does not capture any signals, and did not even have an audio output to provide an alternative to the fuzzy buzzy speakers.)
The mount is nothing special - a piece of laminate screwed over a cutout.
If you don’t want to make the drive, back to the dealer, have the missing components shipped to your house. They will be easy to install. Just don’t expect it to be a thrilling part of the Airstream experience!

You should have the option to wait for the part to arrive before you take delivery.

Thanks, I have confirmed that the stereo unit I am getting is the JL MM50. Doesn't look like I have much to look forward to! I own a 2012 28FC now with a Sony radio and overall very pleased with it. Good quality sound, Bluetooth etc.

Oh yes I do have the option to wait for the arrivall of the radio to the dealership and it appears that is what I will have to do. Fortunately, we own another AS so it will not interrupt trips.

I must do most things differently. I can't believe someone would postpone a trip because of the radio. Mine is a 2017 and I've never turned the radio on! Maybe at Canopener I'll be parked for long enough to try the radio/DVD.
(Confession, I've never used the inverter either)

Rgwatkin,
Well, since that is your plan, notify the dealer you would like the walkthrough to include a run through of the entertainment system system, including the antenna reception and audio through the overhead speakers.
Like Mollysdad, OTA is not a big part of my life, but it’s important to have in case of weather emergencies and breaking news. I was told to bring mine back to the dealer (3 hours each way) for a check of the antenna. For about the price of gas one way, I bought a WB/FM/AM handheld set. I swapped out the TV and put an interface between the DVD and the JL radio. Fuming about the ill conceived (not even cheap!!) original setup the whole time…
Good luck. Maybe the dealer can offer some improvements.
Perhaps if enough new customers push for something that passes a basic “merchantability” test before handing over their money, JC will provide something less embarrassingly inadequate.
