Ball mount for CB used for AM and FM

I pulled the old ball mount off my trailer today and the base crumbled. I am going to put in a AM. FM. radio and I would like to use a new ball mount for the antenna base.? I don't want to drill more holes or patch old holes.

Is there a ball mount that has the AM and FM plug in with the AM and FM antenna? I want all the bolt holes to line up.

Brian

If your antenna is similar to the one on my '64 Overlander International, it was designed to work with the AM/FM radio that was offered as an option from Airstream. You may have to replace the existing cable end with a new cable end that will match your new radio/stereo.

When I researched available replacements, I wasn't able to locate one with a base the same size the one utilized by Airstream in '64. I found many that were smaller and one that was much larger (police radio supply shop). I ended up painting the base of my antenna, adding a new stainless steel 102" whip and installing a new connector end on the cable that exits in the front overhead locker in the street-side corner.

Good luck with your investigation!

Kevin

Yes, I have been satisfied with the performance of my antenna with both AM and FM reception. I have actually had much better reception with the whip antenna than I do with the more modern style automotive antenna on my '78 Argosy.

Thanks Kevin,

I have the ball, the whip but the base is history. I do have the gasket. I guess I will have to find one somewhere.

I will be up in Anna in April. How are the ponds looking up there. The last time I was there (Oct) mine was very low.

Brian

We haven't had much moisture over the winter, but all three of my ponds were basically brim full when the rains stopped in late November. They are still quite full, in fact, one still has water flowing through the spillway at a trickle.

Kevin

P.S.: The base plate is something that you may luck out finding in an unusual place. Try checking any electronic stores that may have been in business 20+ years, you may find that they have one of these parts laying on a dusty shelf. Another possibility would be an "economy" used car dealer who often carries retired police cars -- they ofthen have entire antenna assemblies that they will sell for a reasonable price. A truck stop that has been in business for more than 20 years may also have these parts on a dusty shelf in their stock room as well -- you never know what you might find by asking in some of these locations.
