Antenna help

The gear drive that raises my TV antenna on my 74 Tradewind got broken and now my antenna will not raise. I am looking to update my antenna for HD. Does anyone here have any suggestions for a good replacement? Also, how difficult would replacing the entire antenna assembly be? The one I had had gotten incredibly difficult to crank up and I guess that is how it got broken. I jsut really think I need to update from 33 year old technology. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You can still buy parts for your old antenna if you want to keep it. We have a similar problem, have the parts but haven't dove into taking the antenna off the trailer to repair it. This link is similar to the parts we needed - not sure if you need a different kit....

That looks like my part, but I think I want to upgrade the whole assembly to a new amplified antenna. How involved would it be to change that out?

Going Batty

Get a bat wing type.
The amp is down at base plate and needs 12v.
Only a coax cable runs to roof.
Check for corroded<sp tip, if needed trim cable back and remake end.

Hole size could be different, but easy to make up a spacer plate.
Seal it all up, pop rivits too.

DO NOT get the omni type

You do not need a special antenna for HD. Amplifiers can help sometimes but can also introduce noise. If you gota have one, get one that can be switched off.

We put new cable-type ends on our original antenna & it works great with our HD flatscreen. I had a '76 before our '86 where the antenna gear stripped. I got new gears from South Jersey RV & replaced them (not too difficult) and she went up & down fine after that. The '86 has the same antenna as the '76.

What is the "omni" type? I would like to get a batwing as it seems that most of the people I have talked to have had good luck with those. Aren't they the ones made by Winegard? I want to make sure I get the best i can get. Any suggestions?

You current antenna will work for HD. Maybe not as well as a new one but it will work. If you get a new one get the Winegard Batwing.
