Question AM/FM Antenna Relocation 2009 International CCD 25FB

2009 International CCD 25FB

Has anyone moved their AM/FM antenna? We purchased this Airstream used and the original owners had MAXFANs installed (that is a whole other story) that cannot be fully retracted due to the AM/FM antenna location.

Looking to relocate the antenna or remove it and replace it with a different type in a different location.

Any ideas, suggestions?

Nothing?

Bump...

Sounds like no one has ever removed this antenna?

I suspect that when the antenna is removed the hole(s) will need to be patched... make an aluminum patch and glue/rivet it in place.

Locating to a new spot may be difficult to run the cable, unless you are only moving it a few inches - then just drill the holes and fish the cable.

Might help if you post a photo of the current antenna installation with a description of where you want to move it.

I had a MaxxFan installed on my 25fb and just unscrewed the whip antenna, the base remains and the MaxxFan clears it.. I never listen to radio in our Airstream and ended up pulling out the Sony system and 10 disc changer.

You could drill a hole next to the MaxxFan and fish the wire through for the antenna and patch the original hole.

If you are an AM radio fan the antenna is useless unless parked right next to the station. Jackson Center says the Rubber Ducky antennas are next worthless.

OK... that confirms the problems I've had with my radio. Has anyone replaced the rubber ducky with a decent antenna?

You may be able to use a straight wire wound late model auto antenna. Make an adapter to go from the screw on to the "Rubber Ducky" base which I believe is a bayonet coax style connection. They may be available from a large electronics supplier.

Clarity

To be clear I'm familiar with RF antennas but appreciate the help there.

Really looking for someone who can offer experience accessing the interior skin from the end cap to reroute the original cable.

Options are:
1. Removing the antenna at the hinge
2. Remove the base from the outside, cap the hole and pull the cable back or just cut it in place
3. Access the antenna base from the inside via the light if possible to fully remove the antenna cable and inside mount.

Anything else?
