Alpine Radio Install "74" Tradewind

The front end of my daughter's "74" Tradewind is cleaned out and waiting for wrap around sofa. I'm trying to decide where/how to reinstall a stereo system. You can see the PO had a car radio in a box sitting on the shelf behind the dinette. You can also see the wiring mess I've got to deal with. Have any forum members mounted a radio in the front storage area? How difficult would it be to fish the existing wiring to the storage area? Or would I be further ahead to just remove the panels and go right at it? Any pictures of installations you have done? Thanks!

That is different. On my 73 it was installed in the center compartment, I put a newer radio in there, all the wiring to the four speakers and power was already there. You may find that the PO routed the wiring from up there down to the side. Here is what mine looked like before I started my latest renovations. The blue gaucho is no more.

Bob thanks for posting pictures of your radio replacement. I will need to take a look at the service manual to see if there is wiring running behind the forward compartment. I would like to install the radio behind the roll down. Don't know if it is possible to run the wiring up there from it's current position.
