19' CCD owners with LCD TVs that you mounted

Hello all,
still trying to figure out the best way to do this....
looks like the "oem" mounting spot is above the fridge against the 3 strip rack.
a few questions:

1) did you use a backing board, affixed across those 3 strips? What size did you ultimately use and were you able to obtain the exact black laminate or did you fabricate something?

2) did you use the airstream weight distribution plate?

3) did you have to put any additional L brackets behind the backing board to keep this all in place?

as another option, I was thinking about using an 18" x 16" piece of metal flooring in the diamond pattern (1/4" thick) and then drilling mounting holes for the arm as well as holes to adhere to the cabinet. this would allow me to skip the step of the backing boards (at least i think)

would appreciate your comments/learning from your installation.
i'll try to create a step by step with pictures to help out future members dong the same project.

When we had ours, I had a TV mounted on both sides of that wall. One TV in the back bedroom and one in the front. I didn't use an airstream distribution plate or any backing plate. It all worked fine for me.

Eric: If you haven't done it yet, this is what I did. My bracket has two horizontal hinge pivots and one vertical ball pivot. (I bought if from Costco). I mounted it on the bulkhead wall above the refrigerator inbetween the bed/refrig. That way we can watch in bed or sitting at the table. BTW since our Bambi didn't come with a DVD I bought a Poloroid 19" LCD w/DVD at Target. The reason for that unit is that it runs on 12 volts and I got a cigarette plug from Radio Shack to fit into the TV and plug it into the 12 volt socked above the foot of the bed. That way I don't have to turn on the inverter and burn more electricity just for the invertor. I drilled two 1/4" holes and made a back plate out of 1/8" thick 1" X 6" Aluminum. (I shinned it up and it matches).

If the layout of your 06 CCD is similar to my 05 Safari, I may have a better solution. At least, it worked better for me. I replaced the factory 15" LCD with a 22" LCD. I moved the original rack with the articulating arm from the 3 strip rack to the wall that separates the bed from the galley. It's a sturdy mount, so I didn't have to use any reinforcements, and it allowed me to mount the TV a little higher. That way there is more usable space on the top surface of the reefer compartment, and I got back the storage space that was behind the factory bracket which was mounted to the 3 strip rack. This position also allows the set to swing in any direction for viewing. It really works out better than the original mount. If you're interested, I'll try to get a picture up later.

I would like to see the pictures of how you mounted yours. I want to do this in my 06 CCD and was wondering if that wall would need support on the back side of it. What kind of screws or bolts did you use?

Thanks! Sounds like a good solution! The original owner screwed the tv into the laminate! That will be my next project. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing the pictures.

OK, here goes... sorry about the picture quality, they were taken with my phone.

1. The first one shows the TV secured for traveling with an adjustable strap which came with the factory set up. I put foam pads on the bottom of the set while we're in motion to keep it stable. I did this with the original set up as well.

2. The next picture shows a view from the side while the set is still secured. The strap is fastened to an aluminum bar which I fashioned so the strap can slide up or down. The bar is connected to the bolts of the bracket that holds the TV. I did it this way to avoid having to drill more holes.

3. This view is from front to back, and shows the bracket bolted to the wall. The gizmo above the TV is something I rigged to hold our DVD player or satellite receiver to save counter space. It also swivels so it can face any direction,. I secure the DVD/Satellite receiver to it with Velcro strips.

4. This shows a view with the TV facing the bed. The box to the left is a Tripp-lite surge protector. The stars on the ceiling cover spots from aluminum dust leaching through the mouse fur. (Velcro again) They glow in the dark.


Notes: I replaced the accordion door with a sliding curtain. The curtain doesn't interfere with the TV set up (neither did the accordion door.). I will probably eventually move the TV bracket up about an inch or two. It's a better viewing position, and will give more clearance on the counter top.

Thanks! Looks good. Our tv will have a built in DVD but I like the set up!

Brad: Here are photos the TV mount in my AS. I also had to run a audio line from the earphone jack into the wall above the bed to pick up the pre-wired stereo lines that go to the radio/cd. You may or may not have to do that to use the sound from the Bambi speakers. I also included photos of the velcro hold-down I bought from Home Depot. I think also in one photo you can see where I re-inforced the shelf with a couple of wood screws. What you can't see is where I had to cut out a slit inside the shelf so I could get the velcro strap around the shelf.

It looks good. We ordered the LCD mount today and might follow your lead. We can't find the av wires behind the sockets or under the bed. We will keep looking. Thanks everyone.

I forgot to tell you this...when I was fishing for the pre-wired cable, I found it above the plug that was the "convertor" plug. It was taped to the wall with duct tape about 6" above the plug. There is some fiberglass insulation there too that kind of complicates the search.

Here is the set up we came up with. We got the arm from Walmart.com and its long enough to work in the bedroom as well. Thanks for the help.

Looks great, and more functional than the factory set up. It also confirms that I should have mounted mine a couple inches higher.

We mounted higher to be able to access the lower shelf for the remotes keys etc. We also ran the audio cables behind the shelf (had to cut a hole) since we wernt able to fish them out on the bed side. It looks and sounds great. Were going to replace the speakers and look into wireless speakers for outside. The new receiver is a Kenwood with Bluetooth which also works well with our iPhone and adds as a charger. Thanks again for all the ideas and help.

hey blmitch5, did you use the screw that came with your mount? How did you secure it to the wall? Any concerns on stability or it coming out of the wall? I am looking to mount one in my '05 19' CCD as well. How big a TV do you think could fit in there? I think the factory is a 19" but I would like a 21 or 22 of possible.

We did use the bolts but we had to drill through the wall. Here are some pics.

Ours is a 22 and fits perfectly. The Velcro straps are from Home Depot and the mount is from Walmart.com. It works very well. We also cut a hole behind the shelves and plugged it in to the speaker system for surround sound.
