Water Heater Best Replacement 6 gal

Opinions wanted on best 6 gal water heater. Replacing original Bowen G6A2 just wanting more convenience like auto ignition, dual switch in a gas/electric combo and looking at Atwood GC6AA-10E hoping to use as vacation getaway for few weeks each year. So any suggestions appreciated on function, cost, service, and installation etc. Thanks.

We installed the Truma "AquaGo comfort" instant on water heater in both our 2014 Classic and 2015 23D International Serenity. The form factor is smaller than the tank models and they use less gas since they are not trying to keep 6 gallons of water warm all the time. They also weigh less since there is no 50 pounds (6 gallons) of stored water.

A&P Vintage Trailer Works in Paradise, TX (just about 30 miles northwest of Dallas) installed them for us in each trailer while doing extensive other custom work and they were in the thousand dollar expense category.

Unless you really want a tankless heater (there are pros and cons), your options are either Atwood or Suburban.

Either is available in pilot or electronic ignition, and either has an optional electric element. Costs are similar. Suburban uses porcelain coated steel with an anode. Atwood is somewhat lighter weight and uses an aluminum clad steel tank. Quality and longevity are roughly comparable. I have an Atwood in my trailer. When the water heater in my truck camper goes out, I'll replace it with a Suburban because that's what will fit.

Your main concerns should be fit, exterior appearance, and location of fittings. Nothing will exactly match the Bowen, but you want to keep modifications to a minimum. I believe there have been some successful installs where the original Bowen door was kept, and you could search for threads and photos on these.

I installed and like the 6 gallon Atwood. I got and like the auto ignite. I also got the electric heater but never use it.

I have the electric. The two benefits are that it is quieter and it saves propane. I don't care so much about the dollar cost of propane as I do the hassle of getting a cylinder refilled at an inconvenient point in the trip. On a road trip you can usually find a place that will fill propane for you, but if you're staying for a week or more in one place, you can get stuck.

The fact that the gas grill market has pretty much switched over to exchanging cylinders rather than filling them has made the situation much worse for RVs.

The hot water heater developed a leak which resulted in us replacing our Atwood 6 gal (690602) with a Suburban SAW6DE water heater gas-electric. I’ve read that they fit perfectly but having trouble fitting it in and leaving room for the connections.

Do i need to trim the housing or what is the solve to make this fit correctly so I can connect it? Thanks in advance for any tips or tricks or how tos.

In the process of purchasing a used 2018 International Signature 27FB....was thinking about replacing the current 6 gal gas/electric with a gas tankless....pro's and con's and recommendations on best brands to look for?

Not sure exactly what the clearance problem is. Are you having a problem closing the cabinet door or is the unit just not fitting into the opening?

We have upgraded our two Truma water heaters as they were the first ones installed by A&P Vintage Trailer Works in Paradise, TX many years ago.

The upgrade included a new control board and running wiring to a wall in the bathroom to place a multi-function dimly illuminated control knob to completely control the device. That removed the really bright red light from the OEM water heater on/off switch that reflected all over the 23D interior at night.

The original external three position switch (off - ECO - and freeze proof) on the original logic board is now just an on - off switch on the new board.
