Surburban furnace caps

I have been trying for the past 3 years to get the firebox screw on caps for my Surburban NT30 furnace. The factory told me that this unit is discontinued and our local RV shop told me to just buy a new one with electronic ignition. This furnace looks great so I would like to try and save it. In the past it has been recommended that I try paint thinner caps, gas can caps and even olive oil tin caps to which all failed.

Does anyone have an old surburban furnace that they have retired and would be willing to sell the caps?

Thanks,

Darryl Elkins

We're planning to sell the remains of the furnace from our '64 Overlander, I'm not sure if that would have the same parts as yours or not. Could you post a photo of what you're looking for and I'll see if we've got it?

Couldn't get the digital camera but found one at Singleton RV in Washington.

Now that I have a cap coming and will soon be using my furnace. Does anyone have any advice for how to service or clean it up. I have no idea how long it has been out of service.

Thanks

Darryl, it depends on how proficient you are at careful dismantling and assembly of old machinery. If you get it wrong on assembly, you and your family could die from carbon monoxide poisoning or from a fire or explosion. I can do a fair range of similar tasks, including dismantling and overhauling manual gear boxes, changing main and slave shafts and synchromesh cones, etc, but I paid a professional $90 to dismantle and service my furnace after I had removed it and taken it to the shop. Having watched him do it, I would be prepared to do it myself. It seemed a good investment to me. You might like to consider this. Nick.

I was amazed how easily the pilot lit and the furnace fired right up. We are planning a weekend out soon using the furnace which is needed here on the oregon coast. However, I feel a carbon monoxide alarm would be a wise purchase. Surprising how quiet those things really are. How I need to find a heat regulator for the bathroom. There isn't one in there now.
