I am interested in testing out the water heater on my 1968 overlander. So far, with the exception of the scary furnace which I pulled, the rest of the appliances work - fridge, AC, etc, so I'm encouraged to give it a try. It's a Bowen G10TF, no obvious signs of rust or corrosion. I tried hooking up a regular garden water hose to what looks like the intake, but the threads won't seem to grab, so I'm stumped (the threads look fine, is it just some other kind of hookup I need?)

How do I go about testing this thing? I need basics, I am not very handy with this kind of stuff. Thanks, anyone!

Water heaters don't last 46 years.

Replace it.

I replaced mine w/ an Atwood 10 gal. Dsi ... Love it, I can fire it from inside.. No more aim n flame!!

Those are pipe threads not garden hose threads. There are adapters that will go between. I replaced mine because the stuff coming out was black. It did fire it off and it worked after 40 years with no leaks but why take a chance.

I replaced the original water heater in my 68 Trade Wind with a 10 gal. DSI Atwood, love it. We run in on electric most of the time, but at the farm a flip of the switch and the gas fires up.

Thanks all, I would still like to test it out. $600 for a new water heater is laughably out of my budget, so it's either make this work or I'll heat water over the stove. What's the hose adapter I need?
