Cooktop replacement

I'm interested in replacing the original gas cooktop in our 73' AS. Looking for something that will fit the existing hole.

I'd like to find an electric cooktop if possible.

If the other one works, but looks rusted and nasty then check to see how much it would cost you to get it powder coated. Race cars have their engines powder coated and all other parts. It is not a wet paint. It is paint sprayed on dry and sticks because of an electric current running through it. I had my 73 stove powder coated 4 years ago and it still looks great. It has scratches but that is from me cutting on it. It will come out looking factory new.

Just to correct you a little...
Powder coating is actually an electrostatic process. The object being powder coated is static charged. A very fine cloud of polyester powder is introduced and will adhere to the desired object. It is then baked in a huge oven until the polyester fuses together, then to the object. It is not a very good choice for high heat situations. In the case of engines it is a nitride or ceramic coating process, where metalic compounds are used, not polyester. Most ovens are enameled since high heat resistance is required.

As far as a replacement is concerned, I believe there is one offered for sale in our own classifieds section. It should fit your existing hole!
Good luck!

Atomic:

Thanks for the education. I find powder coating very interesting. Now I know how it is done.
